I have pushed one of my favorite shows on here before and I’m going to do it again. I love Psych because it is incredibly creative and it always keeps me guessing. Plus, I can watch it with my 7 year old. Once in awhile they do one of their tribute episodes. Wednesday’s episode was a tribute to Hitchcock that just thrilled me to pieces. They creatively tied together such movies as Psycho, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rear Window and North By Northwest in a continuation of a serial killer storyline featuring Ally Sheedy which unfortunately goes unsolved by the end of the episode. The writers of this show obviously have a fondness for horror and mystery movies and repeatedly incorporate them into the show. If you haven’t ever watched this show you need to check it out and give it a chance.
As I have stated before I am not as crazy about the Twilight series as everyone else seems to be. I mean the books were decent and so far the movies have been fun. I am just not the biggest fan of some of the changes that Stephenie Meyer made to vampire lore. Anyway, I did come across this Vampire Instructions T-Shirt that made me giggle a little and thought I’d pass it on. I wish it wasn’t so Twilight-ish and more general, but it’s still funny. I would assume this t-shirt is meant for the non-vampire person in the relationship (Bella, Buffy, Sookie et al). Obviously some of them need a little more instruction for their newly acquired vampire than others. Maybe if the Cullens had given Bella this t-shirt for her birthday instead she wouldn’t have cut her finger and started that whole mess.
Since it was cold and snowy here over the weekend Scary Hubby and I decided to see some of the movies that we hadn’t seen in the theater. We are huge movie fans in this house, but with a 7 year old you end up not seeing a lot of the scarier ones until they are released on DVD/satellite. This time we saw “The Uninvited“, “The Haunting of Molly somebody or other” and “Lady in White“. I realize the last one is from 1988, but I had never seen it for some reason. All of these were scary, but not particularly bloody, which I like. More mystery than horror, I would almost say. Anyway, I’ll start with “Lady in White“. It was okay, but quite cheesy. It honestly felt more like a made for TV movie. The acting was decent and the story was interesting, but the music and special effects, even for 1988, were not good. I’m still rather confused as to why they called it “Lady in White” when she was hardly in the movie. I guess it’s a scary title. Doesn’t every town have some legend about a lady or woman in white? On to “The Haunting of Molly…“. Not worth it to look it up to get the correct name. It’s about a girl that’s about to turn 18 and finds out about her devilish future. The movie had me interested in the beginning, but I soon realized where this was going and that there was no way out for her. It was okay, but predictable in my opinion. Glad I didn’t spend the money to see it. Finally, there’s “The Uninvited“. This was definitely the better of the three. We were prepared for it not to be good, though. I’d heard that it was a remake of a Korean movie called “A Tale of Two Sisters” and that it did not live up to that movie’s supposed brilliance. Since we had not seen that movie though, we had nothing to base the story on and just went with it. We both enjoyed it very much! It started out as pretty run of the mill and I have to confess I was playing on my laptop in the beginning with only one eye on the movie. It wasn’t long before the movie had my full attention. It ended up being one of those movies that you go back and re-watch a few scenes to put it all together. I also noticed that we have continued to discuss it even though we saw it back on Saturday night. That’s always a good sign for me. A lot of the reviews mentioned big holes in the story, but if you pay attention that really is not the case. It was, by no means, the best thriller I had ever seen, but it was definitely worth watching. Basically it’s about a girl that tried to commit suicide after her ill mother was killed in a fire and now comes back to live with her family and her Father’s new fiance, who was also her Mother’s nurse. Give it a chance, if you really pay attention you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I know this Flaming Silver Skull is supposed to be scary and it is I guess. It’s very cool and all that, but it reminds me of something a lot less scary. Like the Heat Miser (without the skin) from A Year Without a Santa Claus. He might be scary to your average 3 year old, but not me. I absolutely love the Heat Miser and his brother Snow Miser. Great song. It also reminds me of Syndrome from The Incredibles. Let’s face it though, his look was totally ripped off from the Heat Miser. Anyway, this little skull is about 6″ tall and is made of cold cast resin with a silver finish. He looks to me to be quite pointy, so he might be a good weapon to have around if someone pisses you off.
OMG! OMG! OMG! I’m so excited! Okay so not only is Burn Notice with Bruce Campbell starting up again tonight, but I just got the most awesome news. If you are as much of a Bruce Campbell fan as I am you will be thrilled. If not, well frankly your an idiot and should not be reading this, so go away. A few months ago I blogged about the My Name Is Bruce movie. As usual it was hilarious and Bruce Campbell was brilliant. Well, Mr. Campbell just announced a sequel to that movie called Bruce vs. Frankenstein which will begin shooting in the fall. Here, you can read it for yourself:
“Hello everyone. Bruce Campbell here. This urgent message is short, because my keystrokes are monitored and I fear for my life. My partner at Dark Horse comics, Mike Richardson (normally a very rational and talented man), threatened to have his foot soldiers “crush my spleen” if I did what I am about to do. But the fans deserve to know, so with great trepidation I officially announce Bruce Vs. Frankenstein, the sequel to My Name is Bruce. Principal photography begins this fall in Oregon. I’d like to live long enough to see the cameras roll, so please, for the love of God, do not tell anyone – I can’t risk this announcement getting back to Mike! Thank you.”
Mike Richardson’s response to this hilarious letter:
“As a result of this leak, Mike Richardson has Bruce bound and gagged in a secret room of which only he knows the location. We did learn that Mark Verhedien will return to write it and Ted Raimi will play a KEY role in the film. Richardson says he will release Campbell sometime in the near future when “Bruce learns to keep his big mouth shut.”
I am beyond excited and even more so knowing that Ted Raimi will be in it again as well.Hail to the king, baby.
*Thanks Angelia for the heads up! You made my day.
Here’s a t-shirt that made me laugh as soon as I laid eyes on it. This is the Scary Smurf t-shirt. What is he? A mummy? A zombie? I’ll go for the zombie. Now, I was never a fan of the Smurfs. Even though blue is my favorite color the Smurfs were just too cutesy for me. This t-shirt puts the the edge in Smurf Village that it needed. Just imagine this Zombie Smurf going through Smurf Village eating all of the irritatingly sweet Smurfs. Now that’s a show I could get into.
“Are you tired? Run-down? Listless? Do you poop out at parties? Are you unpopular? The answer to all your problems is in this little bottle.” Well, maybe for Lucy, but not the modern woman or man. I love the Vitameatavegamin episode of I Love Lucy. For some reason I thought of it when I came across this Voodoo Ritual Kit. I know, strange connection. A reader actually sent me the link to this great Folk Art site and that was where I came across it. You can get them for all sorts of things like Love & Passion, Fertility and Get That Job, but the one that caught my eye was the Unhexing kit. That’s what made me think of the episode. Granted, I often find connections in my every day life to Lucy episodes, but that’s neither here nor there. I just thought that if you were feeling these things maybe you were hexed by someone and are finding you need to get yourself unhexed. So, maybe the answer to all of your problems are in this little box. For $59.00 (ouch!) you can once again be awake, alert, popular and ready to party. Well, if you have any money left afterwards, you might. The kit comes complete with instructions, coffin box, Voodoo doll, candle, potion oil, mini Gris-Gris (what’s that?), parchment paper, and incense. It may do the same as Vitameatavegamin, but I wouldn’t get too excited about the drunk part unless you add some liquor to the kit.
Have you heard of Vampira? I’m sure you have unless, of course, you never crawl out from under your rock. She was the original Mistress of the Dark. Elvira was inspired by Vampira. She was the first television horror movie hostess from 1954 to 1955 and then again briefly in 1956. Although the show didn’t last long Maila Nurmi (Vampira) was nominated for an Emmy for the character and has a huge cult following to this day. Maila Nurmi actually passed away just last year. I happened to pick up the latest Gothic Beauty magazine and there was a big article in it about her. I know I claim not to be a Goth, just a lover of all things scary, but lets face it a lot of the stuff I blog about would fall into the Goth catagory. It’s a cool magazine and it gives me great ideas sometimes, so I pick it up now and then. You should check out the magazine so you can read this article, but you can also find out all about Vampira at her website OfficialVampira.com.
As I have said I feel scary costumes are the best for Halloween. I do enjoy the occasional funny costume if it’s clever. This Caught in the Rain costume made me laugh out loud. In my book that means it passes the test. I would really like to see if it’s as funny in person, though. For some reason I am reminded of the costume that Daniel-Sahn wore in The Karate Kid. You remember that right? The Polkadot Shower? I loved that costume. It’s perfect for the shy person. I would imagine though that it would be kind of hard to get around in it. If I remember correctly Daniel-Sahn had a hard time going through doorways. That does bring up a good point though. Make sure you can get around in your costume easily. I’m sure a lot of you remember Donna’s mermaid costume in 90210. Nobody wants to spend their whole night not being able to move.
Apparently being a blogger of all things scary does have it’s privileges. I received this new drink that just came out called Tru Blood. I actually received it before my life went haywire, so I am a little late in reviewing it. This is brought to us by HBO to tie in with the show True Blood. The bottle is red with a black cap and the label says O Positive, Tru Blood, Blood Orange Carbonated Drink. The presentation is great. Now on to the flavor. I hesitate to say if something is good or not because obviously that is up to each individual to decide. I will say for myself and the three other people who tried it that we were split. Two of us liked it and two didn’t. Here’s my opinion. When you first open it there is an orange smell. The first taste you get is actually very good. Very fruity and refreshing, but not orangey as the smell would suggest. Unfortunately the taste quickly disappears and leaves you with the taste of artificial sweetener. I tried to drink a whole bottle, but really did not enjoy it. Again, this is all personal taste. Of course I don’t like Diet Coke either and there are people that swear by it. Don’t take my word for it. Try it yourself and let me know what you think.
