I bet you guys didn’t know that in my house it’s Halloween every day? Okay, well maybe you did. Let’s just say that when I was decorating it I was inspired by The Addams Family. The TV show, not the movie. I always wished that it was in color though, so I could see what colors they used. What I wouldn’t do for some of the stuff from that set! Anyway, my colors ended up being mostly black and blue. Well, I found these great Goth Pillows online, but unfortunately they are in green and black. They were created by WebSpinstress and are just so deliciously creepy. Even though I would love to see them in blue and black I have a feeling they would not be as cool. The green satin has rips and holes in it like it’s old and worn. The whole effect has a zombie feel to it and I think that would be lost if it came in other colors. It does come in a copper color, but that doesn’t work as well for me. I’ll just have to buy them in green and find a way to fit them in. You can too for the low price of $49.99 for the set of two. There are only a limited number available, so hurry if you want them for yourself.

Years ago when I was in college, in the San Francisco area, there was a very cool nightclub that I practically lived in. To me, it was perfect. It was as if it was designed just for me. Of course all of the other people that went there probably thought the same thing. If I remember correctly it was basically just a big square warehouse, but inside was this amazing space. There were heavy red and black velvet curtains everywhere that created these wonderful intimate spaces. There was no large open dance floor. You would just walk from room to room and socialize with people sitting on the purple velvet couches listening to music. Every room was a little different and it made it feel like you were in your own really cool apartment. The music was great and the punk/goth vibe was just amazing. Goth culture wasn’t really a big thing yet, but it had that feeling. Odd things hung on the velvet walls and from the ceiling. There were so many things to look at. Nothing was normal there. I loved it! In one of the many alcoves hung an upside down Christmas tree painted black and decorated with weird doll parts and broken ornaments. I loved that tree and liked to sit below and look at it. I vowed that one day I would hang my tree upside down. So far, I have not done this. I think mainly because I am quite traditional when it comes to the holidays. I may use a lot of black and blue in my decorating, but the way I celebrate has always been more traditional. This was a horrible year and it will be our family’s first Christmas without my Mom, so I’m not really into it like I usually am. I’ve been doing things very different so far and I think it’s time to finally try the upside down tree. I know you can buy stupid fake trees that are made to be upside down, but I don’t want that. I want to take our actual tree and hang it upside down from the ceiling. Scary Hubby seems to be concerned about how to do this, but he always figures these things out. He’s used to finding ways to execute my weird ideas. I know I am by no means the first to do this, so if anyone has any tips they would like to pass along…

I took my usual trip to Target to check out their Halloween stuff. Unfortunately I was a little late this year, so a lot of the cool stuff I had seen online had sold out. Drat! I did make one great purchase, but it’s not on the Target website strangely. So you obviously can’t order it. You’ll just have to go into the store. It’s made specifically for Target, so I doubt you can buy it anywhere else. I took a not so good picture of it, so you can at least see what it looks like. It’s a very short pile velvet and then the skull part is raised with a higher pile. Contrary to the picture it is very black. I had to lighten the pic so the skull would show up. If you look at it in a certain light you can’t even see the skull. It is solid black on the back, so if you ever fall out of your skull mood just turn it over. There are a lot of skull pillows out there, but I really like the simplicity of this one. They also had a white pillow with Halloween words written all over it like scary, boo, halloween and stuff like that in different fonts. It’s cute, but specifically Halloween so I didn’t want it. Both pillows cost $12.99 each, so I quickly snapped up two of the Skull Pillows for my house.

While I was away many people continued to email me scary things that they would come across. Thanks so much for sticking with me! For those that didn’t… well, they can just suck it!
My favorite thing that was forwarded to me was this Panther Sofa. It was designed by italian Master Craftsman Rodolfo Rocchetti of Tappezzeria Rocchetti. Check out his website for other odd pieces. I absolutely need this sofa! It’s so obnoxious and creepy. The only thing I would maybe change is instead of crushed velvet I’d want regular velvet. Don’t remember what that’s called, but you know what I mean. I do question the placement of the chain however. Are you supposed to sit on it, because having a chain up my butt is not what I am into. Not sure if it is removable or not. It might be handy if you need to detain someone though. For you animal lovers, don’t worry, no real panthers were used in the making of this sofa. I tried to find a price, but no luck. If one of you were to maybe buy this for me I might just be willing to rethink the chain up the butt scenario. Ewww… never mind.

I have found a new artist/designer that I am absolutely in love with. Her name is Georgina Brett Chinnery and the name of her company is Bombarock. Of course, as usual, the company is based in the UK where I am convinced all of the people with good taste or at least scary taste live. Ms. Chinnery started the company in 2006 as an upholstery and design business. Although now she mainly works in leather pieces she has some amazing fabric pieces that are just to die for. Bombarock produces anything from chairs to ironing board covers to aprons. Hard to narrow down what is my favorite, but the Bat Apron and the Skull Chair rank pretty high up there. I just love a designer that has some real style and originality.
One of the scariest movies ever made was The Birds. At least it is for me. That movie just makes me shiver. Whenever I see it I spend weeks getting creeped out every time I see a bird and God forbid I should see more than one. That will send me running into the nearest building. Hitchcock was a brilliant director who could make something so sweet and innocent into the most terrifying thing ever. This Bird Pillow reminded me of The Birds the second I saw it. I know I could never have this in my house. Way too scary! I’d never go near a bird and I actually love birds. This pillow is even worse than just a pillow with a bird on it. The birds on this pillow look like they are swarming and coming in for the kill. Way too creepy for me. I draw the line at the bird pillow.
It actually takes very little in life to make me happy. Unfortunately, I do have expensive taste and those items make me very happy. Once in a great while I come across something that I expect to be expensive and I am happy to see that it isn’t that bad. In those cases I usually buy the item immediately thinking I’m getting a great deal. Scary Hubby does not always agree. He always says that just because it’s not expensive doesn’t mean we need it. He reacted that way when I received this Skullstar throw in the mail the other day. “Don’t you have enough blankets with skulls on them?” I of course responded that this is a throw and not a blanket. We don’t have any throws with skulls on them. “Aren’t they the same thing?” “Nope. Blankets are for your bed and throws are for the sofa when you get a chill.” He couldn’t realistically argue that point, so he gave up and walked away. Kill ‘em with logic I always say. Plus, he knows better than to argue with me.
Well, technically it’s called a Sensory Deprivation Skull. This was designed back in 2007 by artist Joep van Lieshout for his studio Atelier Van Lieshout. This is the same guy that designed the Skull Sauna I covered a while back. Seems he really likes to design big skulls. This one opens up to reveal a seating area. No word on whether the comfy lining is included or the cost. The skull is made of reinforced fiberglass and measures approximately 59″ x 43″ x 54″. Only 10 were made, so good luck if you have your heart set on one. Just think: you could curl up in it and read your favorite mystery or you could also get in and close the doors for the ultimate getaway from all of your troubles. Why bother taking a relaxing vacation? You can save all of that money and hole up inside this for a week. So what if you go a little crazy feeling like you might actually be inside John Malkovich’s head?
If you are a coffin lover then here are two to die for. The Coffin Couch on the left is made from an actual coffin! It can be custom made and sells for $3500 and is also available in a chair. The Closing Coffin Couch on the right can also be used as a table and is available in purple, red or black velvet and also sells for $3500. My question is: When was the last time you were at a funeral and thought, “Hey lets pop that sucker open and have a seat!”? I know I claim to be the queen of all things scary, but I’m not sure about this. At first I thought it was totally cool. The more I thought about it, though, the creepier it got. It’s one thing to sit in it I guess, but can you imagine lying down on the closing one to watch your favorite television show and it slams shut? I have to admit it would be great for a lazy vampire. He could place it right in front of his television. When it’s time for bed just lie down and close it up. When you wake up just open and turn on the tube. So, if you have any vampire friends this may just be the perfect gift. It would take a big bite out of your wallet, I admit, but wouldn’t it be worth it? Since you bought them such a nice gift, he might be less likely to take a bite out of you!

Purple can be deliciously creepy and cool if done correctly and I think this funky sofa does it. It does kinda bring to mind that old song, The Purple People Eater by a guy named Sheb Wooley in 1958. Way before my time, but that song has been running through my head since I first saw this sofa. One eyed one horned flying purple people eater… Anyway, it does actually fit in a way. The sofa is really big at 91″w x 36″D, but it’s available in a smaller version too. At that size it might actually swallow you up. It’s available in a huge range of fabrics, but I think velvet is the best choice personally. Velvet makes me purr. The best part is that it is on sale for $649 regular $1200, so stop reading this and go buy it!
