Okay, I admit it, I’m stupid. Surprised? Thought Scary Jane was perfect in every way? Me too! Actually I used much more colorful language when I was yelling at myself earlier today. Want to know what caused me to turn on myself? Well, here ya go. A few days ago I went into a Ross near my house. I pick up the weirdest stuff in there sometimes, so it’s worth a peek now and then. Unfortunately this time I was not finding much that caught my attention until I wandered into the mug isle. There on the shelf was a beautiful Skull Mug. In fact there were four of them. As you may remember I broke my favorite skull mug a long time ago and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. There are hundreds available out there, do a Google search, but none of them were as cool. These were not like my old one, but I just knew that it was the one for me. I looked at the price and they were ridiculously cheap at $3.99 each. Since I didn’t have a basket I left them there and continued looking through the store with every intention of coming back to get them. It was about 2pm and I was getting really hungry since I hadn’t had lunch, so I started going through the store a little faster. I didn’t find anything else I wanted and started to go back to the mugs when I saw the huge checkout line. I knew my stomach couldn’t wait much longer to be fed, so I decided (for some dumb ass reason) that I wasn’t so sure about the mugs anyway and I should just sleep on it. That night I realized that I should have just bought them. They were awesome and they were cheap. The next day I was just too busy to get over there. Today I was really excited about them and determined to go back. I got to Ross after lunch this time and went straight to the mug isle. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but they were all gone! I asked the lady that was stocking the shelves if there were more, but of course there weren’t. She then suggested I try other Ross stores. I got out to my car and tried calling all of the stores anywhere near me and no one had them. I spent the next 15 minutes yelling at myself in the car. Calling myself every horrible name I could think of and even made up a few new ones. I have searched endlessly online to no avail. I have decided that I am not talking to myself for a few days, so I can cool off. I mean how stupid can one person be? Learn from me. Never ever pass something up just because you don’t want to stand in line. You’ll regret it and never forgive yourself. This ends today’s lesson.

You know how much I love skeletons, right? Up until now I thought everything would look much better if it had a skull or even a skeleton on it. That is until I saw this Lovely Bones Lace Headband. I’m not usually a headband kind of girl. I tend to let my long hair hang loose on most days, but I’ll put it in braids or even up on a hot day. Never a headband. They are just too itchy. I do enjoy the funny ones on holidays or for costumes, but it pretty much ends there. This particular one… well, I just don’t know what to say about it. It looks stupid for one thing. If you took the little skeleton off it would be actually quite pretty. Apparently when the designer (an idiot IMO) put all of the black ribbon, lace and feathers together she/he thought it needed a little something else to creep it up a bit. A blood red rose maybe? Nah. Oh wait, what about a spider? No, not enough pizazz. I know! Let’s slap a tiny plastic skeleton right in the middle of it! Sure, that makes total sense. I mean who wouldn’t be creeped out by a real live tiny skeleton on someone’s head? Perfect! Now, let’s charge $39.95 for it and it’ll fly off the shelves. We’ll be rich in no time. Great plan asshole.

We are getting dangerously close to Halloween and nothing could make me happier. As usual we will have our annual Halloween party and I am already in planning mode. I usually have all of the food set up on 2 huge tables and I like to decorate them a lot. I am always looking for something that I’ve never seen before to make it different each year. Well, along comes an email today pointing me towards this fantastic Crystal Skull Candle. I fell in love immediately and decided right away that 2 of them would be perfect to add to my candle collection on the tables. That is until I saw the price. No way am I spending $150 per candle for something that is burned down in one night! Why does this always happen to me? I find the perfect thing and then end up having to find something that will do. Maybe I’ll buy a couple of black candles and some crystals and see if I can’t recreate them. Won’t look anywhere near as good, but it’ll be a hell of a lot cheaper.
*Thanks to Katie for directing me to this. Now if only she would point me to a cheaper version.

Do you remember those dishes your grandmother always pulled out at the holidays? You know the ones. They were always white or cream in color and covered in flowers. I always remember doing the dishes and having to hand wash them because they weren’t dishwasher safe. Ugh. Why did they invent dishwashers if you can’t put all your dishes in them? Why do they make dishes now that are not dishwasher safe? Makes no sense. I can understand the dishes made before the invention of the dishwasher, but now there is just no excuse. Anyway, I now have those dishes and I am turning into my grandmother. Every Christmas and Easter they come out and I kind of feel sorry for Scary Daughter because now she gets to help me hand wash them. Mine are actually quite beautiful and are white with blue flowers. Today I came across this Skull Teapot that I desperately want. It was designed by Trevor Jackson, a Seattle based artist, and can be had for a paltry $1200. It would match my dishes very nicely and I’m sure it needs to be hand washed at that price. It may cause a stir when the extended Scary Family see it which is always fun. My Grandmother may just turn over in her grave, but that’s okay since she’s probably sick of lying on her back by now anyway.

For some reason I keep getting distracted by creepy skull cakes. Every single one I find is better than the last one. Well, at least that’s what I think. I promise this will be the last one for a long time. Unless, of course, I find a better one. I think that’s impossible, though. This has to be the best one. This particular one is based on a T-Shirt design on the Threadless.com website called “Bitter Teeth“. The t-shirt has a graphic of a melting chocolate skull on it. It was made by Chloe Bird for a yearly contest on Threadcakes.com. Basically you submit a picture of a cake you made that turns the t-shirt graphic into an edible cake. It’s apparently a very popular contest, but since I can’t bake a cake to save my soul, I’d never heard of it. Don’t judge me. Anyway, this Bitter Teeth cake is just amazing and it’s completely edible! If you go to the detail page on Threadcakes.com about this cake she takes you through the whole process of making the cake with pictures and descriptions. This girl has a hell of a lot more patience than I do. Very impressive and I think it’s just a coincidence that it happens to look just like a certain melted face from a popular movie. A hundred points if you can guess what it is. The hundred points won’t get you anything, but you’ll have bragging rights. Not sure anybody would care though.

I was sitting around in my office today feeling pretty lazy and just thinking about stuff. Nothing important, just daydreaming. I started to think about the Oscar awards and how I would dress if I ever went. I know, but stranger things have popped into my head. I was wondering what I would wear when I walked down the blue carpet (aka the red carpet, but they changed it in honor of me!) Not sure what I would be doing there that would get me that privilege. Let’s say I was nominated for, I don’t know, costume design? no… screenplay? nah… Oh screw it, let’s just say best actress for the new goth interpretation of Bridget Jones’ Diary. Not that much of a stretch. I was a theater geek in high school after all. Angel and Spike would have to play the Colin Firth and Hugh Grant characters. I’m such a huge star that I can call the shots. Anyway, I’m a shoe-in for the Oscar, so there I would be walking the blue carpet. What to wear? Well, I know what purse I’d be carrying. This Skull Clutch from Butler and Wilson. So awesome. It sells for a hefty $755.00. Now, let’s say the movie was a critical success, but maybe not a box office success. I could then carry this more reasonable Skull Clutch from The Artful Bag. Still very cute, but a little cheaper at $328.00. Okay, so now let’s say the movie totally bombed and the only reason I got nominated in the first place was because I slept with all the voters. This little Skull Clutch might be the more economical choice at $24.00. Definitely the ugly choice, but still a skull clutch. Isn’t it nice to know the odd things that float around in my head? Now, if I could only figure out what to wear.

Once in awhile I still pop onto Hot Topic just to see what’s new. Sometimes you can get lucky and they have some neat stuff . This time I picked up a little black dress. Every girl can use a little black dress, right? You can dress it up and you can dress it down. Usually they are very simple and all black, but this one has a little kick to it that I just couldn’t resist. It’s not too often that you can find a skull themed outfit without it having a giant skull splattered on the front. I like to be a little more sneaky in my clothing choices. I want someone to have to look closely to see what’s on there. Well, that’s exactly what this little dress does. From far away it just appears to be a normal pattern, but up close you see that it’s actually a skull cameo print. Even the lace at the bottom has skulls woven into it. Love, love, love it! Now I just need an excuse to wear it.

These days people write emails or text. They just don’t write letters anymore. It seems to be a lost art form. Once upon a time I just loved stationary. I spent entirely too much time and money in my local Hallmark. Over the years all of that stationary has been packed away and relegated to the attic never to be seen or heard from again. I recently got a bee up my butt and decided I wanted to do some letter writing again. As I was searching online for some cool new stationary, my super intelligent Scary Hubby asked, “What about all of that stationary in the attic?” Dumb ass. He just doesn’t get it. I ended up finding this fantastic black Skull Stationary Set on the Vivre site. Plain black with just the simple white skull. Perfect. It even comes with a silver pen because obviously my usual ink of choice, black, would not show up. One problem. It costs $120. Really?!? For 10 envelopes, a pad of paper and a pen? I mean it’s gorgeous, but I’m not convinced that it costs that much to produce. I know, quality paper… yada, yada, yada, but still not buying it. Literally or figuratively. I guess my search will continue on while Scary Hubby keeps mumbling about the box in the attic.

I have a confession to make. Don’t laugh at me, but I did not see the movie Alien until a few years ago. Scary Hubby kept bugging me to see it, but for some reason it didn’t interest me. I’m not a big Sci-Fi fan and I thought this was just another run of the mill spaceship in peril movie. Finally we were visiting Scary Hubby’s parents in Philadelphia and he and his Dad decided it was time I sat and watched this movie with them. Since I was trying to be a good daughter-in-law I had to give in. An hour later I was convinced this was one of the scariest Sc-Fi movie I had ever seen and added it to my list of great scary movies. I have since seen the sequels which were all good, but nothing compared to the first. I wish I had given in sooner and seen Alien when I was younger, but it still scared the crap out of me. So, I was on vacation in Hawaii last month. I know what you’re thinking and no I am not a sun or heat worshiper. Wearing all black and going to Hawaii don’t really mix, but Scary Hubby and Scary Daughter wanted to go, so I gave in. Turns out I had a great time which I will save for a later post. Anyway, I was poking around in a store and found this Alien Cookie Jar. So cool. I had never seen one like this before. I secretly bought it for Scary Hubby since it’s one of his all time favorite movies and gave it to him when we got back. Needless to say, he was thrilled and it now sits proudly on our kitchen counter daring all to take a cookie. I especially like it because the Alien’s hand looks like a skeleton. Scary Daughter has not seen the movie, but insists that we have to make Alien baby shaped cookies to put inside. So, now I am off on another quest to find an Alien cookie cutter. How do I get myself into these things? Any ideas where I could find one?

Anyone who reads this blog or for that matter just looks at it can guess what my favorite colors are. Dk. Blue and Black have always been my favorite. That’s why my black hair rocks a blue streak on the blog and in real life. It’s my thing. Along with painting my fingernails black and my pinky fingernails blue. A good portion of the world finds me rather odd and abrasive. I do my own thing and as long as I’m not hurting anyone who cares? That being said there is the odd thing that’s pretty mainstream that I get excited about. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I watched every moment of the recent royal wedding. Royalty just fascinates me and always has. I think it’s because back in the day my great uncle was the King of Denmark’s personal valet. My Mom grew up playing with the current Queen of Denmark and used to tell all sorts of cool stories. Sadly my Mom did not stay in touch with her, but she followed her life closely and in turn followed all royalty. When Prince William proposed to Kate with Princess Diana’s sapphire ring I was so excited. Not only because sapphires are my favorite stone, but because it was not the boring and expected diamond solitaire the size of a small country. In some ways I would love to have that ring, but it’s not really me. I came across this Gothic Sapphire Crystal Ring though, that would suit me just fine and would not be such a strain on the wallet at $89.95. It’s still my favorite color and surrounded by diamond-like Swarovski crystals, but this one has an edge to it, a skull edge that surrounds the stones! I love it when things look normal until you look closely and see the evil.
