If you have been diligently reading my blog (you better be) you would know that I just love to piss off my neighbors. I know, not very neighborly, but oh so much fun. Besides, it seems like it has become sort of a running joke in the neighborhood. What will Jane do next? Most of them get a good laugh out of it since we do take good care of our yard, but there are a few that are not so thrilled. That’s mainly why I do it. If they laughed and enjoyed it I’d get bored.
Everyone has seen the pink yard flamingos and a few have even seen the skeleton flamingos, but now a couple of artists selling under the name Chris and Janes Place on Etsy have come up with their own twist. Zombie Gnomes feeding on one of those oh so tacky pink flamingos. They are hand casted, hand painted and sell for $55. They have been getting so many orders for these that they are a little behind in production, but so worth the wait. I am so excited to get mine. Now I just need to think of a great way to reveal it to the neighbors

Since I’ve clearly been on some kind of weird baby kick lately I figured I’d post this little item I’ve had sitting on my desktop for the last few years. I found this Gothic Baby Crib Set from Kustom Kids Bedding quite a while ago and I knew one day I’d write about it. First, though, I must point out how pissed off I am that this didn’t exist when Scary Daughter was a baby. I would just kill for the chance to decorate a nursery again. Not for the baby, I’ve had enough of that, but just for my own pleasure. I guess I always assumed we’d have another Scary Kid, so I could justify purchasing it, but we are just a one Scary Kid kinda family. Maybe I could buy it for that one day in the way way future that I’ll be a Scary Grandma Jane. Luckily Scary Daughter is taking after me and loves all things scary, so I think she’ll be good with that. Do you think it’s too early to shell out the $375 for my 9 year old’s future child? Probably. Make that hopefully!

Found another great Do-It-Yourself Halloween project today called Climbing Skeletons. I’m finding so many cool ideas! I wish I had thought of this before. Maybe next year I’ll plan the whole month to be Do-It-Yourself projects. Especially if new and different decorations are hard to come by again. I wish there was a way for me to do all of the ideas I’ve found, but our yard is only so big. Also, I like to keep things in a general theme which this would not fit into. Anyway, this seems pretty straight forward to make. All you need is 2 or more cheap 5′ plastic skeletons that you can find almost anywhere this time of year. You’ll also need some picture hanging wire which you can find in any hardware store and a ladder. I think this looks pretty simple and could easily be done in one day as long as you already have your supplies. For the directions please click HERE. I know this may seem confusing to some of you simpletons, but those of you who have eaten enough brains will understand. I actually found two different sets of directions for making this, but this one seemed more logical than the one I found on Halloween Prop Master. That’s the one this one was modeled after. Plus I just love the creepy way they are climbing up the front of the house. You could even go more crazy with this and dress them up like zombies or monsters. Can you imagine Zombies crawling up your house to get in the windows? Yikes!

Usually when it’s time for me to write a post I go to my handy dandy Booky Book. What’s a Booky Book you ask? Well, it’s basically my idea list for posts. I spend a ridiculous amount of time surfing the web and when I see something or someone sends me a link it goes in the Booky Book. Usually I just open it randomly and find something to write about right away. Today I couldn’t find it and out of just plain laziness I googled the word skull and eventually came across this Skull Clock. I covet this clock and at $34.95 it’s a no-brainer. That rarely seems to happen to me. No matter how much I love it though, I find myself wishing it were a little different. Maybe instead of the mouth opening up to reveal the clock the mouth could just open by itself to tell me the time. Though that’s probably just my laziness again. It would be especially cool if it had the voice of the Cryptkeeper. Oh how I miss that little guy.

I just love it when you guys send me links to cool stuff you’ve found on the internet. Luckily there is so much neat stuff available out there, but it does make it impossible for me to find everything. This time around I was sent a link to this fantastic Skull Friendship Bracelet made by Links of London. I remember making Friendship Bracelets in high school with embroidery thread. This one is made with copper colored silk thread and sterling silver skull beads and sells for a cool $195. I really love it, though I think it would be much prettier in black silk. Somehow I don’t think the ones we made back then would have sold for that much. That has to be a really, really good friend for me to spend that much on a friendship bracelet. I’m not sure I’ve ever had that good of a friend, but if you buy it for me I’ll be your new bestie.
* Thanks SMEden for the link!

Store — jane @ 10:46 pm
As always I’m on the lookout for cool and interesting items for our annual Halloween party. I especially like things that are good quality so I can use them again and again. A lot of Halloween party items are just not meant to hold up after one night. It’s for this reason that I search out the higher end stores instead of Target, Party City etc. Every year I make the pilgrimage to Pottery Barn. I’m not a fan of their stuff in general, but they usually have a good Halloween collection every year. I stopped in last weekend to see what they had and once again found something I couldn’t resist. That is until I read the fine print. I absolutely coveted this Skeleton Hand Drink Dispenser as soon as I saw it. I looked at the price and saw it was $79. A little expensive, but it seemed to be well made and would hold up year to year, so I went for it. It was so cool with the metal skeleton hands holding the glass dispenser. As I was picking it up to take to the counter I noticed that there was another box to the set. I went to grab it and noticed it was priced at $69. WTF? I asked the oh-so entitled bitch at the counter and was condescendingly told that the glass jar and the stand were sold separately of course. Really?!? When you display them together and only put one price tag on them what do you expect customers to think? What in the world would I want just the stand for? It’s cool looking, but what the hell would I use it for? Especially for $69. I just walked out. The sales girl was rude and and idiot. Couple that with the fact that the powers that be at Pottery Barn would price something that way, I just don’t need to shop there ever again. They won’t miss my business that much, but I really wanted that thing. I still probably would have bought it if it had been priced correctly as a set to begin with. I’m tempted to go back to that bitch and buy that skeleton stand anyway. I can think of one place I could put it.

Okay, I admit it, I’m stupid. Surprised? Thought Scary Jane was perfect in every way? Me too! Actually I used much more colorful language when I was yelling at myself earlier today. Want to know what caused me to turn on myself? Well, here ya go. A few days ago I went into a Ross near my house. I pick up the weirdest stuff in there sometimes, so it’s worth a peek now and then. Unfortunately this time I was not finding much that caught my attention until I wandered into the mug isle. There on the shelf was a beautiful Skull Mug. In fact there were four of them. As you may remember I broke my favorite skull mug a long time ago and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. There are hundreds available out there, do a Google search, but none of them were as cool. These were not like my old one, but I just knew that it was the one for me. I looked at the price and they were ridiculously cheap at $3.99 each. Since I didn’t have a basket I left them there and continued looking through the store with every intention of coming back to get them. It was about 2pm and I was getting really hungry since I hadn’t had lunch, so I started going through the store a little faster. I didn’t find anything else I wanted and started to go back to the mugs when I saw the huge checkout line. I knew my stomach couldn’t wait much longer to be fed, so I decided (for some dumb ass reason) that I wasn’t so sure about the mugs anyway and I should just sleep on it. That night I realized that I should have just bought them. They were awesome and they were cheap. The next day I was just too busy to get over there. Today I was really excited about them and determined to go back. I got to Ross after lunch this time and went straight to the mug isle. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but they were all gone! I asked the lady that was stocking the shelves if there were more, but of course there weren’t. She then suggested I try other Ross stores. I got out to my car and tried calling all of the stores anywhere near me and no one had them. I spent the next 15 minutes yelling at myself in the car. Calling myself every horrible name I could think of and even made up a few new ones. I have searched endlessly online to no avail. I have decided that I am not talking to myself for a few days, so I can cool off. I mean how stupid can one person be? Learn from me. Never ever pass something up just because you don’t want to stand in line. You’ll regret it and never forgive yourself. This ends today’s lesson.

You know how much I love skeletons, right? Up until now I thought everything would look much better if it had a skull or even a skeleton on it. That is until I saw this Lovely Bones Lace Headband. I’m not usually a headband kind of girl. I tend to let my long hair hang loose on most days, but I’ll put it in braids or even up on a hot day. Never a headband. They are just too itchy. I do enjoy the funny ones on holidays or for costumes, but it pretty much ends there. This particular one… well, I just don’t know what to say about it. It looks stupid for one thing. If you took the little skeleton off it would be actually quite pretty. Apparently when the designer (an idiot IMO) put all of the black ribbon, lace and feathers together she/he thought it needed a little something else to creep it up a bit. A blood red rose maybe? Nah. Oh wait, what about a spider? No, not enough pizazz. I know! Let’s slap a tiny plastic skeleton right in the middle of it! Sure, that makes total sense. I mean who wouldn’t be creeped out by a real live tiny skeleton on someone’s head? Perfect! Now, let’s charge $39.95 for it and it’ll fly off the shelves. We’ll be rich in no time. Great plan asshole.

We are getting dangerously close to Halloween and nothing could make me happier. As usual we will have our annual Halloween party and I am already in planning mode. I usually have all of the food set up on 2 huge tables and I like to decorate them a lot. I am always looking for something that I’ve never seen before to make it different each year. Well, along comes an email today pointing me towards this fantastic Crystal Skull Candle. I fell in love immediately and decided right away that 2 of them would be perfect to add to my candle collection on the tables. That is until I saw the price. No way am I spending $150 per candle for something that is burned down in one night! Why does this always happen to me? I find the perfect thing and then end up having to find something that will do. Maybe I’ll buy a couple of black candles and some crystals and see if I can’t recreate them. Won’t look anywhere near as good, but it’ll be a hell of a lot cheaper.
*Thanks to Katie for directing me to this. Now if only she would point me to a cheaper version.

Do you remember those dishes your grandmother always pulled out at the holidays? You know the ones. They were always white or cream in color and covered in flowers. I always remember doing the dishes and having to hand wash them because they weren’t dishwasher safe. Ugh. Why did they invent dishwashers if you can’t put all your dishes in them? Why do they make dishes now that are not dishwasher safe? Makes no sense. I can understand the dishes made before the invention of the dishwasher, but now there is just no excuse. Anyway, I now have those dishes and I am turning into my grandmother. Every Christmas and Easter they come out and I kind of feel sorry for Scary Daughter because now she gets to help me hand wash them. Mine are actually quite beautiful and are white with blue flowers. Today I came across this Skull Teapot that I desperately want. It was designed by Trevor Jackson, a Seattle based artist, and can be had for a paltry $1200. It would match my dishes very nicely and I’m sure it needs to be hand washed at that price. It may cause a stir when the extended Scary Family see it which is always fun. My Grandmother may just turn over in her grave, but that’s okay since she’s probably sick of lying on her back by now anyway.
