Ophelia

Okay, I know I said I was done with the sappy stuff, but I just have to sneak in another post. We were forced to put our poor little Lucy to sleep since she was in so much pain. The vet tried everything, but she was just to far along. We will miss her dearly. Not being one to sit around without multiple cats in the house, I insisted that we go and pick out a new kitten at the Humane Society. Scary Hubby had a hard time with this one. Lucy was our first baby that we got together when we were just dating, so she meant a lot to us. Scary Hubby was very attached to her and so was I. I just like to move on quicker. I know a kitten will take our minds off Lucy. Plus we had Morticia and it would be nice for her to grow up with another kitten. We had every intention of getting a Gomez for our Morticia, but the boys were all so wild. I really wanted a snuggle cat and we all fell in love with this little black and white girl. Well, we couldn’t name her Gomez, so I came up with Ophelia. If you remember, Ophelia was Morticia’s sister in the original Addams Family TV show from the 60s’. She was the goofy reverse version of Morticia and I always liked her. So, please welcome little Ophelia into the Scary Jane family.

Morticia

Filexd under: Animals,Misc.,Nature,News/Articles — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:28 am

As you should know by now, if you’ve been reading my posts, I have lost 2 cats in the last year. Well, now my third cat, Lucy, has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and cancer of the spleen. Apparently that cancer is very rare in cats. Anyway, sadly it’s not looking good for my baby girl. She’s 13 years old and she’s had a pretty comfy life, but she’s the last of our cats. Super sweet and the softest cat I’ve ever known. We called her Lucy Bunny because her fur felt more like bunny fur. That’s her on the far right during happier times. Just last week before all of this came up we got a new little kitten. Scary Daughter’s cat, Edgar, had died this summer and we had promised a new kitty before school started. She is 2 months old and all black of course. We named her Morticia since we are all huge fans of the The Addams Family and she reminded us of her. That’s little Morticia lying next to the red pillow. So please welcome her to the Scary Family. Now that it looks like Lucy will be passing on, we will get another kitten after that. We have our hearts set on a boy so we can name him Gomez! It’s horrible losing a pet, let alone 3 in a year and half, but that’s what you sign up for when you get a pet. Sadly, they don’t live forever, but they do remain in our hearts forever. Okay, now that the sappy crap is done, lets move on!

Skull Clutch

Filexd under: Accessories,Apparel,Fashion,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:04 am

I was sitting around in my office today feeling pretty lazy and just thinking about stuff. Nothing important, just daydreaming. I started to think about the Oscar awards and how I would dress if I ever went. I know, but stranger things have popped into my head. I was wondering what I would wear when I walked down the blue carpet (aka the red carpet, but they changed it in honor of me!) Not sure what I would be doing there that would get me that privilege. Let’s say I was nominated for, I don’t know, costume design? no… screenplay? nah… Oh screw it, let’s just say best actress for the new goth interpretation of Bridget Jones’ Diary. Not that much of a stretch. I was a theater geek in high school after all. Angel and Spike would have to play the Colin Firth and Hugh Grant characters. I’m such a huge star that I can call the shots. Anyway, I’m a shoe-in for the Oscar, so there I would be walking the blue carpet. What to wear? Well, I know what purse I’d be carrying. This Skull Clutch from Butler and Wilson. So awesome. It sells for a hefty $755.00. Now, let’s say the movie was a critical success, but maybe not a box office success. I could then carry this more reasonable Skull Clutch from The Artful Bag. Still very cute, but a little cheaper at $328.00. Okay, so now let’s say the movie totally bombed and the only reason I got nominated in the first place was because I slept with all the voters. This little Skull Clutch might be the more economical choice at $24.00. Definitely the ugly choice, but still a skull clutch. Isn’t it nice to know the odd things that float around in my head? Now, if I could only figure out what to wear.

Gothic Engagement Ring

Filexd under: Accessories,Apparel,Fashion,Jewelry,News/Articles,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:35 pm

Anyone who reads this blog or for that matter just looks at it can guess what my favorite colors are. Dk. Blue and Black have always been my favorite. That’s why my black hair rocks a blue streak on the blog and in real life. It’s my thing. Along with painting my fingernails black and my pinky fingernails blue. A good portion of the world finds me rather odd and abrasive.  I do my own thing and as long as I’m not hurting anyone who cares? That being said there is the odd thing that’s pretty mainstream that I get excited about. I am slightly embarrassed to admit that I watched every moment of the recent royal wedding. Royalty just fascinates me and always has. I think it’s because back in the day my great uncle was the King of Denmark’s personal valet. My Mom grew up playing with the current Queen of Denmark and used to tell all sorts of cool stories. Sadly my Mom did not stay in touch with her, but she followed her life closely and in turn followed all royalty. When Prince William proposed to Kate with Princess Diana’s sapphire ring I was so excited. Not only because sapphires are my favorite stone, but because it was not the boring and expected diamond solitaire the size of a small country. In some ways I would love to have that ring, but it’s not really me. I came across this Gothic Sapphire Crystal Ring though, that would suit me just fine and would not be such a strain on the wallet at $89.95. It’s still my favorite color and surrounded by diamond-like Swarovski crystals, but this one has an edge to it, a skull edge that surrounds the stones! I love it when things look normal until you look closely and see the evil.

Scary Jane Rises Again

Filexd under: Misc.,News/Articles — Tags: , , — jane @ 11:02 am

Okay people… I’m back. I know I know it’s been a while, but it’s been a very challenging year. First I lost our cat Agatha, then I lost my mom unexpectedly and then I just lost another cat, Edgar. All three were very out of the blue and it’s been an adjustment to say the least. My other cat, Lucy, is also getting old and I’m thinking her time is not far off. If that’s not enough my dog is also not doing so well. Now, I know, pets are not the same as losing your mother, but when they all happen within a short period of time it hits you pretty hard. I guess that’s what we get for having pets that are all the same age. A few years ago I made the joke that our pets would all start dropping like flies one day. Unfortunately I was right. Anyway, I have had some false starts in the past year to get going again and now I’m doing it again. This time I hope to succeed. Please be patient with me. If you can’t do that then you can just bite me and go to hell.

Oddities

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Books,Collectibles,Decor,Furniture,Halloween Decor,Nature,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:35 pm

Let’s face it, I am a little weird. Some would even say very weird. I collect unusual things, I dress weird and I decorate my house strangely. My favorite movie quote is, “I, myself, am strange and unusual.” Do you know what movie that’s from? It’s from Beetlejuice. Lydia says this when she is talking to the two ghostly inhabitants of her parent’s new house. I have always thought that it describes me perfectly. My extended family all find me rather odd and have never understood me. Once in a while I come across someone who is like minded and it helps me remember that there are many people out there like me. I have recently discovered a new show and it has quickly became my favorite. I’m actually surprised that it ever got on TV, considering it’s sometimes high ick factor. It’s called Oddities and it’s on the Discovery Science channel. It’s about an unusual antique store in New York called Obscura Antiques and Oddities. It follows the two owners as they deal with buying and selling strange old items. Anything from real skulls to old medical equipment to coffins. If it’s weird and old they probably have it or want to buy it. It’s a fascinating show and I highly recommend it to all of my strange and unusual friends.

Pirate Skull Snuggie/Slanket

Filexd under: Accessories,Apparel,Fashion — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 6:06 pm

It’s butt-ass cold here and from what I can tell from the news it seems it’s cold most places in the US right now. I don’t like the heat to be on very high and I really like bundling up during the winter anyway. In my office the desk sits right in front of two huge windows, so it can get especially cold there. I love to wear hats, funky gloves and arm warmers, but this year I seem to need more. So, I started looking around on the internet for something to keep me warm on those freaky cold days. Do you get cold, too? If and when you do, do you like to snuggle up to a skeleton? Probably not. No matter how much I love skeletons and skulls I can’t see myself doing that. Plus, how warm could that be? How about one of those stupid snuggie things? I have always thought they looked completely ridiculous, but what if you made it a black one and covered it in skulls? Hell yeah, I would and you probably would too. This Pirate Skull Slanket costs $32.99 which isn’t cheap, but it’s totally worth it for the coolness factor and the warmth one too.

Coffin Boxes

Filexd under: Crafts,Halloween Decor,Misc.,Storage,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 11:52 pm

A while back I found these Coffin Boxes and used them as gift bags for a party I had. I have used them since for many things, but I recently remembered a time from my childhood when I could have used them. As a child I hated Barbies and I still do. I kept getting them as gifts and would then find new and interesting ways to destroy them. Little Scary Jane soon found herself in a dilemma. How to hide the dead bodies from her parents when they were the ones who insisted she should like Barbies, like her sister.  I had been piling them up in shoeboxes, but I needed a more permanent solution. Being the odd child I was I decided I needed to at least give them a proper burial. What do you do when you have a bunch of dead Barbies to bury? At that time cool little Coffin Boxes were not available to me, so I tried to make my own to hold them, without much luck. I ended up burying them without boxes in the backyard. So, take it from me, if you have a Scary child of your own please don’t try to make them play with Barbies. They’ll just find ways to torture the poor things like I did. If you do at least have the decency to get them some of these Coffin Boxes. If you buy them in bulk you can even save money.

Filexd under: Books,Holidays,Misc.,Story/Poem — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:29 pm

We all love Christmas right? And who doesn’t like hearing the Night Before Christmas? I’ve always thought it was a little sappy, so last year I decided to rewrite it. Click here to see Scary Jane’s take on that old classic.

Scary Jane

Filexd under: Misc.,News/Articles — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 7:53 pm

Could this be a post about Scary Jane? The Scary Jane? Nope, it’s not, but it is about the blog. Are you tired of checking the site every 5 minutes to see if I’ve posted something yet? I get regular emails from some of you idiots complaining that I do not post on a regular schedule. I patiently tell you that my mother died unexpectedly this year which turned my world upside down. I stopped working for a while to concentrate on my family, but I am feeling much better these days. My book business came first, since that’s where the money comes from, and now I’m back at the blogging thing posting regularly. Unfortunately, there is no set time of the day that I do it. Usually it’s late in the day, like now, but it can be anytime really. Well, I have finally solved your problem. Scary Jane now has a Newsletter! Every Friday an email will be automatically sent, to those who subscribe, that will include all of my posts for the week. Don’t worry I won’t sell your email or send you spam. I wouldn’t even know how to. I do reserve the right to sell your soul, however. You can subscribe by entering your email in the box that’s below my image on the top left of your screen. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of being underneath me here’s your chance!
