Since I’ve clearly been on some kind of weird baby kick lately I figured I’d post this little item I’ve had sitting on my desktop for the last few years. I found this Gothic Baby Crib Set from Kustom Kids Bedding quite a while ago and I knew one day I’d write about it. First, though, I must point out how pissed off I am that this didn’t exist when Scary Daughter was a baby. I would just kill for the chance to decorate a nursery again. Not for the baby, I’ve had enough of that, but just for my own pleasure. I guess I always assumed we’d have another Scary Kid, so I could justify purchasing it, but we are just a one Scary Kid kinda family. Maybe I could buy it for that one day in the way way future that I’ll be a Scary Grandma Jane. Luckily Scary Daughter is taking after me and loves all things scary, so I think she’ll be good with that. Do you think it’s too early to shell out the $375 for my 9 year old’s future child? Probably. Make that hopefully!
So, Halloween is over and the holidays have begun. I know I’ve been missing in action since Halloween, but many many different things have been going on in the last month. Starting in January things are going to change a lot for me. I will be starting a new business venture and ending an old one. I won’t be sharing exactly what will be happening, but I will tell you that the Scary Jane website will not be going anywhere. In fact, Scary Jane is becoming much bigger next year and I can’t wait to get started. Unfortunately I have to spend the next month focusing on ending the old one. No worries, I should be posting here regularly. I just wanted to give you guys a heads up in case I don’t post for a couple of days or something. Trust me this is exciting. Well, it is for me anyway and I’m sure someone out there will think it is too, I just haven’t found him/her yet.
Wanna be the first?

Part of enjoying this time of the year is seeing scary movies, TV etc. I thought I might address the newest scary TV show that premiered last week called American Horror Story. I have now seen both episodes and I must admit to not being sure whether I like it or not. It’s very scary and like I read somewhere recently it’s like nothing I’ve ever seen on a TV show before. The main thing that bothers me is the constant feeling of having seen everything before. The reason I feel that is because almost every major scene is copied from some famous scary movie or another. Interestingly, though, it appears to be very much on purpose which I find so strange. They cover every scary movie from The Shining to The Strangers and everything in between in the first 2 episodes. I find it somewhat irritating and enjoyable at the same time. I’m actually reminded of the show Lost. I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. I watched every episode religiously from day one and when it came down to the last episode I was really pissed off. They spent the entire series feeding us cryptic information in every episode and in the end most of them remained unanswered. How is that like American Horror Story? There is so much stuff being thrown at the audience in every episode that I have this feeling that we will never get the answers to any of it. I find all the characters to be pretty unlikeable. I don’t think they’ve spent enough time on character development. It seems like they are spending all their energy on trying to shock you and no time on making you like the characters. As Scary Hubby pointed out though, it’s very well made and the acting is very good. It does do what it sets out to do. It definitely scares you. I just don’t know if that’s enough. If you have the hots for Dylan McDermott, then you’ll love the first episode. I lost count on how many times we saw his butt. I really like him, but that just got old after awhile. Why these people continue to stay in this house and even bought it in the first place is the big mystery. In the end, if you like to be scared, turned on and disturbed all at the same time then this show is for you. If you want a story you can dig yourself into then look elsewhere. Not sure if it will last and I can’t decide if I will continue to watch, but this is just my thirteen cents.

The Halloween season is upon us, which makes me so happy. It took a while to get cooler here, but now it’s finally starting to feel like Fall. I’ve been searching all the stores online and in person so I can write about all the best Halloween stuff available. If you have a recipe, craft, DIY, costume or saw anything in a store that I should know about don’t hesitate, don’t be afraid just email me. I do bite, though, so be careful.
Now for the ground rules:
1. If you are here because you think I worship the devil, then just go away. No need to comment. I believe I have already received emails from each and every one of you wanting to save my soul and I thank you for your concern, but I’m all set.
2. If you wish to stop me from writing about Halloween or just scary things in general please refer to the first amendment. It’ll help with your stupidity.
3. Have a f**king sense of humor
4. Just remember, my idea of the best may be different from yours and that would make you wrong.

Store — jane @ 10:46 pm
As always I’m on the lookout for cool and interesting items for our annual Halloween party. I especially like things that are good quality so I can use them again and again. A lot of Halloween party items are just not meant to hold up after one night. It’s for this reason that I search out the higher end stores instead of Target, Party City etc. Every year I make the pilgrimage to Pottery Barn. I’m not a fan of their stuff in general, but they usually have a good Halloween collection every year. I stopped in last weekend to see what they had and once again found something I couldn’t resist. That is until I read the fine print. I absolutely coveted this Skeleton Hand Drink Dispenser as soon as I saw it. I looked at the price and saw it was $79. A little expensive, but it seemed to be well made and would hold up year to year, so I went for it. It was so cool with the metal skeleton hands holding the glass dispenser. As I was picking it up to take to the counter I noticed that there was another box to the set. I went to grab it and noticed it was priced at $69. WTF? I asked the oh-so entitled bitch at the counter and was condescendingly told that the glass jar and the stand were sold separately of course. Really?!? When you display them together and only put one price tag on them what do you expect customers to think? What in the world would I want just the stand for? It’s cool looking, but what the hell would I use it for? Especially for $69. I just walked out. The sales girl was rude and and idiot. Couple that with the fact that the powers that be at Pottery Barn would price something that way, I just don’t need to shop there ever again. They won’t miss my business that much, but I really wanted that thing. I still probably would have bought it if it had been priced correctly as a set to begin with. I’m tempted to go back to that bitch and buy that skeleton stand anyway. I can think of one place I could put it.

Okay, I admit it, I’m stupid. Surprised? Thought Scary Jane was perfect in every way? Me too! Actually I used much more colorful language when I was yelling at myself earlier today. Want to know what caused me to turn on myself? Well, here ya go. A few days ago I went into a Ross near my house. I pick up the weirdest stuff in there sometimes, so it’s worth a peek now and then. Unfortunately this time I was not finding much that caught my attention until I wandered into the mug isle. There on the shelf was a beautiful Skull Mug. In fact there were four of them. As you may remember I broke my favorite skull mug a long time ago and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. There are hundreds available out there, do a Google search, but none of them were as cool. These were not like my old one, but I just knew that it was the one for me. I looked at the price and they were ridiculously cheap at $3.99 each. Since I didn’t have a basket I left them there and continued looking through the store with every intention of coming back to get them. It was about 2pm and I was getting really hungry since I hadn’t had lunch, so I started going through the store a little faster. I didn’t find anything else I wanted and started to go back to the mugs when I saw the huge checkout line. I knew my stomach couldn’t wait much longer to be fed, so I decided (for some dumb ass reason) that I wasn’t so sure about the mugs anyway and I should just sleep on it. That night I realized that I should have just bought them. They were awesome and they were cheap. The next day I was just too busy to get over there. Today I was really excited about them and determined to go back. I got to Ross after lunch this time and went straight to the mug isle. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but they were all gone! I asked the lady that was stocking the shelves if there were more, but of course there weren’t. She then suggested I try other Ross stores. I got out to my car and tried calling all of the stores anywhere near me and no one had them. I spent the next 15 minutes yelling at myself in the car. Calling myself every horrible name I could think of and even made up a few new ones. I have searched endlessly online to no avail. I have decided that I am not talking to myself for a few days, so I can cool off. I mean how stupid can one person be? Learn from me. Never ever pass something up just because you don’t want to stand in line. You’ll regret it and never forgive yourself. This ends today’s lesson.

Scary Jane — jane @ 12:10 am
Stopped into Barnes and Noble today to see if they had put their scary stuff out yet. They had put some out, but it looked like they were still in the process. I stopped into the bargain isles and found this little Eerie Origami kit. I’m not a particular fan of origami. It’s not that I don’t think it’s cute, I just find it irritating and kind of a waste. Let me explain. First of all I have absolutely no patience for it. I have tried and tried to do it, but it rarely comes out right. I learned how to make a ball when I was just tiny Scary Jane and I can still do that. I pull that one out anytime I feel the need to impress someone with my folding skills. My aunt always and I do mean always would make an origami thing out of her napkin. I’m not sure what it was. It looked like a boat, but also looked like a flower. A long time ago I was very determined to make an origami flower. It took me forever. I don’t think the instructions are ever very clear. I finally finished it and was quite proud until seconds later my new kitten at the time (that’s Lucy, who just passed away… for the people who actually read my posts) grabbed it off the table and ran. I was finally able to save it from her only to find that in less than a minute she had destroyed it. That’s what I mean by a waste. In other words a f***ing waste of time. This origami kit looks really cute, but I have way better things to do with my time then sitting around folding paper. I still have the origami ball that I can pull out anytime and that’s enough for me.

Even though the Fright Night movie from 1985 didn’t make the Scary Jane reader’s top ten best scariest movies list, doesn’t mean it didn’t belong there. Well, maybe not top ten worthy, but it sure deserved an honorable mention. Actually maybe this year I should do the top ten best comedy horror films. If, or should I say when I do I’m sure the original Fright Night will appear. Anyway, being fan of the original I was a little nervous to see the remake. I can’t think of a single horror remake that has come anywhere close to the original. Most notably Psycho. Love Vince Vaughn, but despised that remake. I always wonder why they bother. If it ain’t broke, don’t f***in fix it! So, last weekend we went to see the Fright Night remake with Colin Farrell. Normally we would have avoided it, but it got some decent reviews, so we just went for it. So glad we did. It actually turned out to be quite good. They changed enough of the story to make it interesting for those people who have seen the original a million times (like me). Colin Farrell made a very good (and sexy) vampire. The script still had laughs and was more scary than the original, but not really gorey. I hate 3D, so we went to a regular showing. I’m sure there were supposed to be more scares, but I think 3D detracts from the story. I loved that they even poked a little fun at the original. I highly recommend you take a chance and go see this. If you do, keep an eye out for a great cameo from one of the original actors.

Do you remember those dishes your grandmother always pulled out at the holidays? You know the ones. They were always white or cream in color and covered in flowers. I always remember doing the dishes and having to hand wash them because they weren’t dishwasher safe. Ugh. Why did they invent dishwashers if you can’t put all your dishes in them? Why do they make dishes now that are not dishwasher safe? Makes no sense. I can understand the dishes made before the invention of the dishwasher, but now there is just no excuse. Anyway, I now have those dishes and I am turning into my grandmother. Every Christmas and Easter they come out and I kind of feel sorry for Scary Daughter because now she gets to help me hand wash them. Mine are actually quite beautiful and are white with blue flowers. Today I came across this Skull Teapot that I desperately want. It was designed by Trevor Jackson, a Seattle based artist, and can be had for a paltry $1200. It would match my dishes very nicely and I’m sure it needs to be hand washed at that price. It may cause a stir when the extended Scary Family see it which is always fun. My Grandmother may just turn over in her grave, but that’s okay since she’s probably sick of lying on her back by now anyway.

Okay, I know I said I was done with the sappy stuff, but I just have to sneak in another post. We were forced to put our poor little Lucy to sleep since she was in so much pain. The vet tried everything, but she was just to far along. We will miss her dearly. Not being one to sit around without multiple cats in the house, I insisted that we go and pick out a new kitten at the Humane Society. Scary Hubby had a hard time with this one. Lucy was our first baby that we got together when we were just dating, so she meant a lot to us. Scary Hubby was very attached to her and so was I. I just like to move on quicker. I know a kitten will take our minds off Lucy. Plus we had Morticia and it would be nice for her to grow up with another kitten. We had every intention of getting a Gomez for our Morticia, but the boys were all so wild. I really wanted a snuggle cat and we all fell in love with this little black and white girl. Well, we couldn’t name her Gomez, so I came up with Ophelia. If you remember, Ophelia was Morticia’s sister in the original Addams Family TV show from the 60s’. She was the goofy reverse version of Morticia and I always liked her. So, please welcome little Ophelia into the Scary Jane family.
