Baby Mold

Filexd under: Art,Crafts,Food & Candy,kitchen,Recipes — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:54 pm

Now I am not referring to mold that grows on a baby, but I am writing about a mold to make baby shaped items. I don’t know which is worse. Most creepy scary things I find I would love to have, but once in a while it’s just something too weird and disturbing. This silicone Baby Mold from First Impressions Molds is at the top of my list right now. You can make all sorts of stuff with it. Soap, candles, candy, chocolate, ice, bread(!), jello, clay etc. It measures about 2.5″ long, so it’s not something you just throw in your mouth. You have to pick an end to start with and my money is on avoiding the butt at all costs. Don’t you just want to run out and buy one, so you can start eating babies too?

Cat Eye Glasses

I don’t know about you, but I love weird sunglasses. I’m not talking about the stupid ones where the eyes are shaped like a beer mug or a peace sign. I mean the unusual ones like these great Cat’s Eye Glasses from Victorian Trading Co. Technically they are “Costume Eyewear”, but that never stops me from wearing them in the evening around town. Just don’t count on them protecting you during the day from that blazing sun. You’ll still burn to a crisp, but the upside will be that you’ll look cool doing it.

Creepy Baby Lamp

Filexd under: Accessories,Bed & Bath,Decor,Lighting,Novelty,Office,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 7:53 am

When I am looking for new stuff to post about I sometimes search on random words put together. A lot of times my word mixtures do not produce anything, but once in awhile I get lucky and hit upon some uber creepy item. Today’s creepy item is the Baby Lamp. Yes, those are the everyday words I searched on. I was just spitballing. I didn’t really think anything would come up of interest. Wow, was I wrong! I thought maybe this was just a design project or something, but no it’s a mass produced item that you can purchase online from a real store. I mean, really?!? What the hell? I love creepy stuff, but this is just weird. Is it really meant for a nursery or is it just a novelty? What really cracks me up is the cord coming out of his butt. Wouldn’t it have been better if it came out of his belly button like an umbilical cord? This little weirdo comes in various colors and can be had for about $100. So, what are you waiting for? Don’t you want one for your desk at work?

Scary Witches’ Brew

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Crafts,Decor,Food & Candy,Halloween Decor,Recipes — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:02 pm

For many years we have had a Halloween party. Each year it gets bigger and more elaborate as I find new things or ways of doing things. Our guests love it and we have a blast doing it. It just takes a lot of prep time. Every year I make the same punch which I originally talked about Here. Everyone loves it and it’s always a huge hit. I usually make one with alcohol and one without. As usual I will be making it this year, but with a new added ingredient that I’m really excited to try. Here is the original recipe:

1             96 oz. Orange Juice
4             48 oz. cans Pineapple Juice
4             2 liter bottles of Sprite or 7Up
1             1.75 liter bottle of vodka

Obviously this makes a lot, but you can cut it down for the amount you need keeping the ratios the same. For the non-alcholic just leave out the vodka and it still tastes great! Someone told me last year that it you add a couple of scoops of lime sherbert it really gets an eerie gross scum to it that looks disgusting, but still tastes great. I sorta think substituting the Sprite/7Up with Ginger ale might make it more gross since it’s not clear, but kinda brownish. So, I might try that. Last year I bought a mesh tea ball and put the small pieces of dry ice inside instead of in the main cauldron. Once I closed it up I just sank it right into the actual punch. Safe to drink, but the bubbling comes right from the punch! It worked really well, but I searched all year for something bigger to use. Once it disolves you have to fill it up again, so I wanted something that I could put more in to last longer. Turns out you can get mesh tea balls in a larger size. They are also known as spice balls apparently (So not in the mood for stupid jokes, so just shut up!). Don’t forget the ice hands/fingers because they are still fun!

Climbing Skeletons

Filexd under: Crafts,Decor,Halloween Decor,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 5:22 pm

Found another great Do-It-Yourself Halloween project today called Climbing Skeletons. I’m finding so many cool ideas! I wish I had thought of this before. Maybe next year I’ll plan the whole month to be Do-It-Yourself projects. Especially if new and different decorations are hard to come by again. I wish there was a way for me to do all of the ideas I’ve found, but our yard is only so big. Also, I like to keep things in a general theme which this would not fit into. Anyway, this seems pretty straight forward to make. All you need is 2 or more cheap 5′ plastic skeletons that you can find almost anywhere this time of year. You’ll also need some picture hanging wire which you can find in any hardware store and a ladder. I think this looks pretty simple and could easily be done in one day as long as you already have your supplies. For the directions please click HERE. I know this may seem confusing to some of you simpletons, but those of you who have eaten enough brains will understand. I actually found two different sets of directions for making this, but this one seemed more logical than the one I found on Halloween Prop Master. That’s the one this one was modeled after. Plus I just love the creepy way they are climbing up the front of the house. You could even go more crazy with this and dress them up like zombies or monsters. Can you imagine Zombies crawling up your house to get in the windows? Yikes!

Snake Wreath

Filexd under: Accessories,Animals,Decor,Halloween Decor,Misc.,Nature,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 11:20 pm

I happen to live in a neighborhood where everyone is very uptight, but think they’re cool. Those are the worst kind. My family stands out, needless to say, and I have no problem with that. At least we have a sense of humor and don’t call the police every time an African American chooses to walk down our street. Pretty much every house has some cutesy wreath on the door. You know the ones I’m talking about. There is the dried flower ones, plastic flower ones, the weird ones made out of different colored balls, the branch ones etc. I personally hate them and refuse to ever put one on my door. It’s so suburban and just drives me crazy. I have a black feather one that I put on my door once, but it was almost too pretty so I took it down. Today I ordered one that I might actually put on my door with pride. This Snake Wreath with the great Medusa vibe is meant as a Halloween decoration. I hope at $29 that it actually looks good, but we’ll see. I’ll probably remove the sound/vibrating box as I want this as a year round decoration. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. I just love to piss off my neighbors. Is that wrong?

Cat Spatula

Filexd under: Accessories,Animals,Decor,Food & Candy,Halloween Decor,kitchen,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:39 pm

Okay, I know I claim to love all things Halloween and most of the time I do. I really have a hard time during the Halloween season. I usually want to buy just about everything I see. However, that was not the case today when I saw this Cat Spatula at Crate and Barrel. I guess it’s cute, but I think they’ve gone a little too far with the Halloween themed items. I mean, come on you might as well go all the way and have Halloween themed baby wipes or even a Halloween themed power strip. No one is going to see this spatula, but the person who’s baking something and the inside of the dishwasher. The pattern is not even on the handle part. It’s just a tiny cat on the tip of the plastic part. Come on you product developing ass wipes! Nothing wrong with some creativity, but at least use your brain. Does the world really need Halloween themed foot powder?

Skull Chair

Filexd under: Furniture,Misc.,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 12:41 am

You know those stupid white plastic chairs that everyone used to have out on their patios? They started out all pretty and white and then after one rain storm you ended up with a dirt puddle on the seat that was impossible to get clean. The next year you’d buy some more, since they were so cheap, and it would happen again. Year after year you’d do this until it finally got through your thick skull that they were crap. They even tried making them in dark green and other colors thinking that would hide the dirt puddle, but no still gross. A reader sent me the link to this awesome plastic Skull Chair. It’s actual name is “Souviens Toi Que Tu Vas Mourir” (Remember That You Will Die). Not sure how it gets that name. It appears to be a twist on the old crappy plastic chairs. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I looked they do not seem to be for sale or not yet anyway. I would actually buy this, but it would stay nicely inside where no dirt puddles could ever ruin it. I have a feeling this little guy is going to be expensive if it ever hits the market, so I’m not holding my breath. Anyway, this Skull Chair is going to be a part of  “New Wave, the new French domestic landscape” exhibition in the furniture fair in Milan at the Nouvelle Vague at the French Cultural Centrer – Palazzo Delle Stelline – Corso Magento 63 20123 Milan on 12 to 17 April 2011.

*Thanks Scott for the link!

Skull Radio

Filexd under: Accessories,Decor,Misc.,Music — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 10:14 pm

Skull RadioIf you don’t know by now, I love skulls. I love anything with skulls on it, but apparently even I have my limits. I came across this Skull Radio and thought to myself that some things are just better left without a skull. This little plastic radio has a sound-activated skull that wags his jaw along to your favorite station and has light-up eyes. According to the website the push-button settings are “fun to use”. Really? I sincerely doubt that. I’ve never come across push-buttons that are anything more than functional. I don’t know. This just looks cheap and stupid to me. Not everything requires a skull perched on top of it. As a joke gift maybe, but that’s about it. Might explain why it’s marked down to $8.98 from $19.95. If you love it and can’t live without it wait a little longer and I’m sure the price will go down even more.

Plastic Body Parts Jewelry

Filexd under: Jewelry — Tags: , , — jane @ 4:29 pm

Plastic Body Parts JewelryWhat will artists think of next? This is probably the most unique and creative jewelry I have ever seen. When was the last time you saw a plastic pair of boobies fashioned into a necklace or a bunch of arms turned into a bracelet? Do you have the balls to wear a plastic butt on your shirt? This is a very creepy and funny jewelry line designed by Margaux Lange who is based in Brooklyn, NY. Take a look at her website. It’s amazing what she has done with all of those body parts. She grew up loving Barbie and thought of a creative way to celebrate her. I was never a huge Barbie fan and enjoy seeing her dead and dismembered. Is that wrong?
