Okay, I know I claim to love all things Halloween and most of the time I do. I really have a hard time during the Halloween season. I usually want to buy just about everything I see. However, that was not the case today when I saw this Cat Spatula at Crate and Barrel. I guess it’s cute, but I think they’ve gone a little too far with the Halloween themed items. I mean, come on you might as well go all the way and have Halloween themed baby wipes or even a Halloween themed power strip. No one is going to see this spatula, but the person who’s baking something and the inside of the dishwasher. The pattern is not even on the handle part. It’s just a tiny cat on the tip of the plastic part. Come on you product developing ass wipes! Nothing wrong with some creativity, but at least use your brain. Does the world really need Halloween themed foot powder?

For some reason I keep getting distracted by creepy skull cakes. Every single one I find is better than the last one. Well, at least that’s what I think. I promise this will be the last one for a long time. Unless, of course, I find a better one. I think that’s impossible, though. This has to be the best one. This particular one is based on a T-Shirt design on the Threadless.com website called “Bitter Teeth“. The t-shirt has a graphic of a melting chocolate skull on it. It was made by Chloe Bird for a yearly contest on Threadcakes.com. Basically you submit a picture of a cake you made that turns the t-shirt graphic into an edible cake. It’s apparently a very popular contest, but since I can’t bake a cake to save my soul, I’d never heard of it. Don’t judge me. Anyway, this Bitter Teeth cake is just amazing and it’s completely edible! If you go to the detail page on Threadcakes.com about this cake she takes you through the whole process of making the cake with pictures and descriptions. This girl has a hell of a lot more patience than I do. Very impressive and I think it’s just a coincidence that it happens to look just like a certain melted face from a popular movie. A hundred points if you can guess what it is. The hundred points won’t get you anything, but you’ll have bragging rights. Not sure anybody would care though.

For some time now I’ve been collecting photos of creepy cakes. I recently came across one that I completely love. I can’t seem to find out who made it or where the picture came from originally, but it is beyond awesome. I’ve seen many different skull cakes and loved every single one of them, but this one’s different. This stopped me in my tracks. It is so realistic looking! It’s really a work of art. Could you imagine cutting it open and finding red velvet cake inside? Yummy and bloody! Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find me this cake. Or rather find me who made it. I have a big birthday coming in 7 months and I need this cake. No, I won’t tell you which one, so don’t ask!
I’m not a cupcake kinda girl. They taste okay, I guess, but in the end they are just tiny cakes. I’m not wild about plain cake. I like fillings. I know that you can get cupcakes with fillings, but I find they are usually too sweet. I’m more of a muffin kinda girl. (yeah, I know) Whenever I see a cupcake it reminds me of some pajamas I had when I was little. They were bright pink and covered in pink, purple, light blue and yellow cupcakes. Clearly I did not pick it out. I hated it, but my Mom loved it. Lately cupcakes have become so popular with stores opening up everywhere selling just cupcakes. Well, I happened across this book called Zombie Cupcakes at the bookstore the other day and I actually (gasp!) bought it. The recipes sounded pretty good and who can resist a good zombie cupcake? I especially like the ones with body parts because for the few minutes it takes to eat it you can actually pretend you are a zombie. I have no real desire to become one, but the idea of biting off someone’s arm or leg does sound attractive sometimes.
I always get very excited when it’s time to check out the new Worldwide Fred catalog. They have the greatest stuff and their wicked humor always puts a smile on my face. I was looking through the catalog to see if there was anything new that I couldn’t live without. I came across this Cake Candelabra. I absolutely love this, but I must admit to being a little pissed off. My birthday was just last week and I would have killed to have this on my cake. I went online to go buy one for next year, but they are not in stock yet. They will be selling for $7.99 at Perpetual Kid. So, in the end I wouldn’t have been able to have one on my cake anyway. Still sucks though. My other problem with it is that it should be black. It would be more dramatic that way. Oh! And it would be so cool if there were little spiderwebs stretched between the candles or even drops of blood. Oh well. I can dream. Of course not everyone is as dark minded as I am, though they should be. It would be a lot easier to go shopping if everything was my style. I know I have mentioned this before, but I really want a store that just caters to me.
I’ve seen many skull cakes over the years, but this one really takes the cake. Ha Ha! Anyway, it is actually the best one I’ve seen. Unfortunately, with this particular cake no one seems to know where it came from. It appears on many websites and a reader actually sent this one to me, but I can’t find anything out about it. I would love to know more. I particularly want to know if that is chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream inside. And what makes the shell? It just looks delicious.
*Thanks Lisa for the picture, but not the craving.
A reader sent this picture in to me. She said she was getting married and they were planning on doing a scary themed wedding. This is the cake design that they found online and are having copied by their bakery. I don’t know where this picture is from so I can’t give credit to anyone. I absolutely love this cake. I’ve seen scary themed wedding cakes before. A lot of people have been doing the whole Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride, but I applaud these two for going just plain scary and not relying on pre-made props. I love these movies as much as the next guy, but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty easy to throw that kind of wedding. From her description they are doing it all themselves and I can totally get behind that! I almost wish Scary Hubby and I could do it again, so we could have this cake too.
*Thanks Dubus for the pic and yes I think it’s great…obviously.
