Spider Mouse

Filexd under: Office, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 3:12 pm

Spider MouseHere’s the scary product of the week. This Spider Mouse would probably be too scary for me to use. I would be terrified that the thing would come back to life and escape. I’m assuming they are dead, but I can’t read Japanese so who knows. Can you imagine your co-workers seeing that on your desk? You can also get it with some other bugs, but I think the spider is the scariest. The spiders or insects are sealed inside a pocket of clear gel to preserve them and then some internal LED lights to light them up and make them even more scary. They apparently sell for only 1,480 yen  which is about $15. Pretty cheap, but I’m sure shipping from Japan would be pretty high. In case you are reading this Scary Hubby I DO NOT want one of these for my birthday.

Badass Chair

Filexd under: Art, Decor, Furniture, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 6:09 pm

I came across this very badass chair called The Outlaw the other day. It was designed by Ted Nemeth. The chair “…is a classic Victorian chair that’s hand carved from solid mahogany the painted satin black and embossed with jewels, tooled leather and working speakers in the footstool.” Not sure where to start. There are just so many things to say about this chair. As a former interior designer I still get very excited about furniture. I also get very irritated when someone says they painted solid mahogany. That’s neither here nor there though. Just an aside really. This chair has the words F*** O** tooled in on the seat with a black skull sitting at the top of the back. It certainly is a badass chair and I think only badass people should own it. It’s very cool, but might just be a little too scary for my house. Or should I say weird. The thing that bugs me the most is the speakers in the footstool. Really? Is that necessary? How do they attach to your stereo? Will you have cords running from it or is it wireless? Why on the footstool anyway? Your feet will be pumping with the music. Wouldn’t that affect the sound? I don’t know. Strange choice if you ask me, which no one did or I would have given them an earful!Outlaw ChairOutlaw Chair 2

Spider tattooFor your creepy enjoyment (or not) I present you with this yucky spider tattoo. It looks a little fake to me. It’s just a little too perfect. I can’t seem to find the origin of this picture, so I just have to assume that it’s real. Either way… ICK!!

Creepy Guy in Wall

Filexd under: Art, Nature, Outdoors, Travel, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 1:18 pm

Guy in Wall StatueAfter I received so many emails on the last picture I posted I thought I’d try to post this one. I’ve had this picture for a while, but have no idea where it came from. I think it’s somewhere in Great Britain, but I could be wrong. I find this guy to be very creepy. Judging by the surroundings of the statue it looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere. I would jump thirty feet in the air if I was walking down a quiet lane and came upon this guy. I’d love to meet him. Anyone out there able to help me? I’ll post when I find out something.

Rotten Luck Dice

Filexd under: Accessories, Art, Misc., Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 6:02 pm

Rotten Luck DiceAnd now for the person who has everything…Rotten Luck Dice. This is a set of five extremely cool dice designed by Douglas Little that are made out of a zinc alloy and Swarovski crystals. Each one is engraved with a skull, a peace sign, the devil, the number 13, a shamrock and a horseshoe and comes in a cool black box. Now for the price that’s not so cool…$195! They are beyond neat, but I’m not sure they are worth quite that much. Of course, Barneys is selling them so that might explain the price. If you go over to Unica Home though they are selling them at 20% off. They would be neat to have sitting around to play with. The kind of people that can afford to spend $195 on a trinket seem like they might have quite a bit of luck already and wouldn’t want to risk the luck of the roll. I also tend to picture rich executive types as not having a wicked sense of humor which I think is required for an item like this.

The Most Expensive Skull…Ever

Filexd under: Accessories, Art, Collectibles, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 6:11 pm

For the Love of GodYesterday’s post about the skull stapler got me thinking. For some reason I started wondering what the most expensive skull ever made was. I started searching and very quickly came up with the answer and boy is it expensive. It’s called For the Love of God and has been named the most expensive piece of contemporary art ever made. There was even a book called For the Love of God: The Making of the Diamond Skull written about it. It was made by artist Damien Hirst using a skull that he found in a shop. The skull is believed to be the skull of a 35 year old man who lived between 1720 and 1810. It’s covered in platinum and diamonds. It has 8,601 diamonds and comes in at 1,106.18 carats. It’s the most expensive piece of art ever created, costing between $16 and $20 million to make. When it was made the artist put a price tag of 99 million on it. It did not sell, but was eventually purchased by a consortium for 100 million that included the gallery owner and Mr. Hirst himself. The artist said that he was inspired by an Aztec turquoise skull at the British Museum, and hopes that his work will eventually be displayed at the institution. I’d be willing to let him display it at my house. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous and I must have it. Do you think they accept layaway?

Scary Statue

Filexd under: Misc., Outdoors, Travel, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 8:08 pm

Scary StatueHere is a picture of a scary statue that I found on the internet. I absolutely love this statue. The problem is I have no idea where this statue is or if it is even real. It looks real, but in the age of Photoshop who knows? I’d also like to know what it is actually a statue of. It looks like the Grim Reaper, but I can’t imagine anyone making a statue of him. I can’t make out what the plaque says. If anyone knows anything about this statue please email me or post a comment. I continue to search on the internet for it. I’ll post if I find out anything.

*Update: Ask the world of the internet and quickly get an answer. Gotta love it! This was designed by Anna Chromy, a sculpter & painter born in the Czech Republic. Her best-known piece is the empty coat, known as Coat of Conscience. There is one located in Austria, one in Praque, one in Athens and a few others. So much for for my scary ideas. Thanks Irie.

Tooth Tattoos

Filexd under: Art, Misc., Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 5:26 pm

Tooth TattoosThis is not so much scary as just weird. I understand people wanting tattoos. It shows off your personality or what you care about, but this is just plain strange in my book. A dental lab in Salt Lake City called Heward Dental Lab will tattoo any image onto your crown or bridge. Prices range between $70 and $250 depending on the complexity. My question is what’s the point? No one can see it. I guess you could open your mouth really wide and pull your cheek out and you are also giving your dentist something interesting to look at. Beyond that though, I don’t know. It’s a lot of money to spend when no one is going to see it. I know people put tattoos in strange places and on their nether regions, but then at least someone is seeing it. Well, I assume, anyway. If you are really into looking creepy putting a skull on your front tooth might be pretty cool, but I get the impression from the website that they mostly do inside the mouth. I think I’ll stick with the more standard body parts, thank you.

Scary Ass Doll Thing

Filexd under: Art, Misc., Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 4:58 pm

Creepy Baby Doll thingSunday seems to have become scary/weird/creepy/yucky picture day. I didn’t plan it, but I never feel like writing much on Sundays for some reason. People are always sending me weird pictures that they have found on the internet and it just seems like the perfect day to post them. Plus today I am knee deep in a Hitchcock marathon on TV. With that in mind here’s today’s contribution. Not really sure what to say about it or where it even comes from for that mattter, but here it is anyway. I find it creepy and cool at the same time. Enjoy and keep sending them!

*Thanks Lisa!

Bees!

Filexd under: Accessories, Art, Decor, Nature, Outdoors, TV/Movies, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 6:23 pm

I know I mostly cover scary things on this blog, but once in a while I come across something gross that’s worth talking about. Actually this is just beyond creepy and gives me the heebie jeebies. Artist Aganetha Dyck works with honeybees to create sculptural objects that end up coated and filled with precisely formed honeycomb structures. This just gives me the complete creeps. It reminds me of those old horror movies from the ’70s that were about killer bees taking over the world. Killer Bees, The Bees, The Swarm etc. I just remember in one of those movies somebody being found dead covered in honeycomb. That scared the crap out of me as a child and gave me nightmares for weeks. I really see no reason anyone would ever want to put this art on display, but maybe that’s just me. I swear I was just looking at the pictures again and my gag reflex kicked in. ICK!
