Spider Web Window

Back when I was in college I lived in San Jose, CA. My favorite place to visit was The Winchester Mystery House. If you have never heard of this wonderful place then you can read about it here. I loved going there, it was all so interesting. The best thing was the windows. Lots of the windows were stained glass, but my favorite were the ones that looked like spider webs as you can see here. I have always wanted windows like that, now I can at least have something like it thanks to LindaLeeGlass on Etsy. This is particularly gorgeous and surprisingly well priced at $45. Order yours here.

Play Dead

Filexd under: Art,Misc.,News/Articles,Travel,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @

There are times when I wish I lived in New York or at least near it and this is one of those times. Clearly last year was not my best and somehow I missed this little piece of scary news. There is a new, well new as in October of 2010, Off-Broadway thriller called Play Dead. It is co-written and directed by Teller (of Penn & Teller) and co-written & performed by Todd Robbins. I have always been a magic geek. I know dumb, but I love trying to figure out how everything is done. Penn & Teller are great, but Teller is the mastermind in my opinion and Penn is the showman and comedian. Since Teller is one of the minds behind this I just have to find a way to see it. Maybe it’ll go on the road? Judging by reviews and the website it is very difficult to describe what this play is about. Without having seen it yet, I hesitate to try and describe it. Here is a blurb from the site.

“Teller and Todd Robbins invite Death out to play in PLAY DEAD, a new spirit-shaking Off-Broadway show inspired by “Midnight Spook Shows,” an American institution from the 1930s to the 1970s.  As the guide for the evening, Robbins draws audiences into an unknown haunted world full of frightful surprises and diabolical laughter.  Although very much a theatrical work, it is hardly a typical “play,” but rather a dramatic, unnerving thriller – here and now in an “abandoned” theater, illuminated by a single ghostlight – in which audiences test their nerves and face their fears as they are surrounded by ethereal sights, sounds and even touches of the returning dead – all achieved by wry, suspenseful storytelling and uncanny stage illusions.”

One reviewer said that it’s basically true ghost stories told in a seance setting where things happen to the audience. Apparently the majority of the play/performance happens in complete darkness. It’s gotten rave reviews. Sounds like something right down my dark alley.

Never Moon A Werewolf

Never Moon A Werewolf T-ShirtToday’s T-Shirt Tuesday are words to live by. This Never Moon A Werewolf t-shirt basically points out that mooning a werewolf would not be a good idea. I mean everyone knows that a full moon brings out the werewolf in an infected person. Now of course I realize that the legend refers to the actual moon in the sky, but who knows? Do you really want to chance that just for a gag? This reminds me of something that happened to us last year. We were in England and we actually had a guy moon us while we sat and ate dinner on a patio. Two days later it happened again while we were walking on the beach and a week later it actually happened again. Crazy, right? Maybe they thought one of us was a werewolf and they were trying to catch us. We might have been, but quite a chance to take, don’t you think? Later we found out from a friend who lives there that it’s quite common to get mooned in England. Especially on the coast during festivals which is where we were. Too bad I wasn’t wearing this t-shirt then. Maybe they would have thought twice before they did it and we, including my 7 year old daughter, wouldn’t have been subjected to some random guy’s hairy ass. Just a thought.

Zombie Fluxx

Filexd under: Games,sports,Toys/Games,Travel — Tags: , — jane @

Zombie Fluxx gameI come from a long line of game lovers. I grew up playing games with my family and friends and still do. We host game nights with our friends and every Sunday afternoon is game time in our house. One that we play regularly is the award winning game Fluxx. It’s a fun card game that’s easy to play anywhere since there is no board or money involved. I recently found out that there is a Zombie Fluxx version. How cool is that? I can’t believe we’ve been playing all this time and never knew. I have yet to get it, but I’m very curious about it and how the zombie theme changes the game. I would try to explain the game to you, but the goal and the rules of the game changes all the time and it’s one of those games you just have to jump in and play. From what I can understand there are weapons to kill the zombies with and your friends can become zombies. If anyone out there has played it email me or comment on this post and let me know what you think and if it’s worth getting.
