Carrie Bear

Filexd under: Animals,Art,Collectibles,Crafts,Etsy,Novelty,Toys/Games,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:39 pm

We’ve all seen the movie Carrie, right? The iconic scene of Carrie having blood dumped on her at the prom? If you haven’t then you probably don’t belong on this website and should go back to searching for summer clothes on JCrew. Carrie is like no other horror movie I’ve ever seen. Many movies tried to copy the idea with similar story lines, but none came close to the feelings you have while watching this. A reader sent me a link to a shop on Etsy called Croshame. This woman crochets adorable little scary figures. Some are depictions of scenes from horror movies like The Exorcist and Carrie (pictured) while others are just from her twisted mind. They are a little pricey, but they are very unique. You are never going to find them somewhere else and they are all handmade to order. The trouble comes when you have to decide which one you can’t live without.

*Thanks Rosenz for the link!

Eerie Origami

Filexd under: Animals,Art,Arts/Crafts,Books,Crafts,Halloween Decor,Misc.,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:10 am

Stopped into Barnes and Noble today to see if they had put their scary stuff out yet. They had put some out, but it looked like they were still in the process. I stopped into the bargain isles and found this little Eerie Origami kit. I’m not a particular fan of origami. It’s not that I don’t think it’s cute, I just find it irritating and kind of a waste. Let me explain. First of all I have absolutely no patience for it. I have tried and tried to do it, but it rarely comes out right. I learned how to make a ball when I was just tiny Scary Jane and I can still do that. I pull that one out anytime I feel the need to impress someone with my folding skills. My aunt always and I do mean always would make an origami thing out of her napkin. I’m not sure what it was. It looked like a boat, but also looked like a flower. A long time ago I was very determined to make an origami flower. It took me forever. I don’t think the instructions are ever very clear. I finally finished it and was quite proud until seconds later my new kitten at the time (that’s Lucy, who just passed away… for the people who actually read my posts) grabbed it off the table and ran. I was finally able to save it from her only to find that in less than a minute she had destroyed it. That’s what I mean by a waste. In other words a f***ing waste of time. This origami kit looks really cute, but I have way better things to do with my time then sitting around folding paper. I still have the origami ball that I can pull out anytime and that’s enough for me.

Frog Zombie

Filexd under: Arts/Crafts,Bed & Bath,Collectibles,Nature,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:05 am

I usually stay away from blogging about things on Etsy. Not because I don’t like it, but because I think I like it too much. Well, that and the fact that a lot of the things sold are one of a kind items. This time I had to make an exception, though. I came across this little Frog Zombie and just fell in love. You know I have such a weakness for zombies. He’s made by Plushroom Soup. Check out some of the designers other zombified animals. I’m especially partial to the Unicorn Zombie since I hate unicorns. What makes them so cute is that they are made to order and the designer will customize it for you. You decide how bloody and gory you want them to be. The arms and legs are held on with magnets, so they are removable. The frog doesn’t come cheap, though. He sells for $48, but totally worth it to get your handmade 10″ Frog Zombie made to your liking. Now if only I could find a real one…

Grimm

Filexd under: Art,Games,Office,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:30 am

I love my iPhone, I really do, but I’m not the ideal user. I rarely download apps. Scary Hubby will tell me about something that I just have to have and usually I download it and then get bored with it. I will admit that I have a healthy obsession with Solitaire, especially Pyramid Solitaire. I do use those apps quite frequently. A while back Scary Hubby emailed me a link for yet another app. This sat in my inbox for the last month not getting touched. I finally opened it up this afternoon to see what it was. Big mistake. I can’t stop playing this game! It’s called Grimm: Ride of the Perambulator and it’s incredibly addictive. Basically you play a lost baby in a carriage and you have to maneuver it through darkly gothic victorian worlds where Mr. Grimm and other scary men are trying to stop you and kill you. It’s kind of like Super Mario, but with a baby in a gothic world. The graphics are just gorgeous. Think Tim Burton with a dash of Gorey. I wish they made it for the iPad, because I would love to see that artwork on a larger scale. You can download it here. It’ll cost you $0.99, but it’s worth it. Just make sure you read the device requirements and that yours is completely up to date.

Coffin Boxes

Filexd under: Crafts,Halloween Decor,Misc.,Storage,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 11:52 pm

A while back I found these Coffin Boxes and used them as gift bags for a party I had. I have used them since for many things, but I recently remembered a time from my childhood when I could have used them. As a child I hated Barbies and I still do. I kept getting them as gifts and would then find new and interesting ways to destroy them. Little Scary Jane soon found herself in a dilemma. How to hide the dead bodies from her parents when they were the ones who insisted she should like Barbies, like her sister.  I had been piling them up in shoeboxes, but I needed a more permanent solution. Being the odd child I was I decided I needed to at least give them a proper burial. What do you do when you have a bunch of dead Barbies to bury? At that time cool little Coffin Boxes were not available to me, so I tried to make my own to hold them, without much luck. I ended up burying them without boxes in the backyard. So, take it from me, if you have a Scary child of your own please don’t try to make them play with Barbies. They’ll just find ways to torture the poor things like I did. If you do at least have the decency to get them some of these Coffin Boxes. If you buy them in bulk you can even save money.

Toddlerpedes

Filexd under: Art,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 8:28 pm

ToddlerpedeA while back I posted a picture of a strange doll sculpture. As I was poking around on the internet I finally came across where it originated from and a little bit about it. These doll sculptures are created by visual artist Jon Beinart. Toddlerpedes evolved over the years to imitate insects and mythological creatures. “I like the idea that the dolls i use in my sculptures have played important roles in so many childhoods. Personalities were attributed to each doll, which have come together to form a mega-personality… A sculpture that screams ‘Look at me!’

Now you can help him build a gargantuan Toddlerpede sculpture. “Jon is desperately searching for recycled dolls. He needs thousands of plastic doll parts to finish his latest art project, which he aims to complete by the end of 2010. Jon intends to tour an army of gargantuan Toddlerpede sculptures in public galleries throughout Australia. Your pre-loved dolls would help greatly in making an artist’s dreams come true. To donate your unwanted dollies, or doll parts, for this ambitious art installation please contact Jon.” If you are a completely non artistic type of person here is your chance to be part of a piece of art

Killibinbin

Filexd under: Bar,Books,Food & Candy,Games,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , — jane @ 5:40 pm

Killibinbin CabernetKillibinbin Scaredy CatLast night Scary Hubby and I had a few friends over for game night. One of my good friends (now best friend) decided to bring me a bottle of wine she happened to come across that she knew I’d like. We have a great bunch of friends. They know what I like, so anything remotely scary is brought to the Scary Jane alter to be oo’d and ah’d over. Well, this time they struck gold. This is a wine from Australia called Killibinbin. They make quite a few different wines, but I received the Scaredy Cat Cabernet Malbec. What makes these wines so great, you ask impatiently? Well, my little pain in the ass, besides being fun to say they have really cool labels. They look like the old pulp mystery novel covers they had back in the day. This of course brings together three of my favorite things. Wine, books and scary stuff. I haven’t tried the wine yet, because the bottle is so neat, but I can imagine that I’ll love it no matter what just because of the presentation. I’m easy that way.

Zombie Fluxx

Filexd under: Games,sports,Toys/Games,Travel — Tags: , — jane @ 5:53 pm

Zombie Fluxx gameI come from a long line of game lovers. I grew up playing games with my family and friends and still do. We host game nights with our friends and every Sunday afternoon is game time in our house. One that we play regularly is the award winning game Fluxx. It’s a fun card game that’s easy to play anywhere since there is no board or money involved. I recently found out that there is a Zombie Fluxx version. How cool is that? I can’t believe we’ve been playing all this time and never knew. I have yet to get it, but I’m very curious about it and how the zombie theme changes the game. I would try to explain the game to you, but the goal and the rules of the game changes all the time and it’s one of those games you just have to jump in and play. From what I can understand there are weapons to kill the zombies with and your friends can become zombies. If anyone out there has played it email me or comment on this post and let me know what you think and if it’s worth getting.
