Spider Table

Filexd under: Art, Decor, Furniture — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 8:57 pm

Spider TableI am not normally a fan of glass tables. I find them to be too contemporary for my taste and a pain in the ass to clean. Once in a while though, I find a table like this Spider Table that changes my mind and makes me rethink my personal style. I think this table is deliciously creepy. I’ve been obsessed with spiders lately, so I keep searching them out online. I think this might just creep me out too much to have it in my house, but it’s still totally cool. I think it would make me have nightmares about giant spiders chasing me like in those old movies. This particular table was designed by Judy Kensley McKie and is made from steel and glass. Unfortunately it is a one of kind, so don’t get too attached.

Badass Chair

Filexd under: Art, Decor, Furniture, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 6:09 pm

I came across this very badass chair called The Outlaw the other day. It was designed by Ted Nemeth. The chair “…is a classic Victorian chair that’s hand carved from solid mahogany the painted satin black and embossed with jewels, tooled leather and working speakers in the footstool.” Not sure where to start. There are just so many things to say about this chair. As a former interior designer I still get very excited about furniture. I also get very irritated when someone says they painted solid mahogany. That’s neither here nor there though. Just an aside really. This chair has the words F*** O** tooled in on the seat with a black skull sitting at the top of the back. It certainly is a badass chair and I think only badass people should own it. It’s very cool, but might just be a little too scary for my house. Or should I say weird. The thing that bugs me the most is the speakers in the footstool. Really? Is that necessary? How do they attach to your stereo? Will you have cords running from it or is it wireless? Why on the footstool anyway? Your feet will be pumping with the music. Wouldn’t that affect the sound? I don’t know. Strange choice if you ask me, which no one did or I would have given them an earful!Outlaw ChairOutlaw Chair 2

Bombarock

Skull ChairBat ApronI have found a new artist/designer that I am absolutely in love with. Her name is Georgina Brett Chinnery and the name of her company is Bombarock. Of course, as usual, the company is based in the UK where I am convinced all of the people with good taste or at least scary taste live. Ms. Chinnery started the company in 2006 as an upholstery and design business. Although now she mainly works in leather pieces she has some amazing fabric pieces that are just to die for. Bombarock produces anything from chairs to ironing board covers to aprons. Hard to narrow down what is my favorite, but the Bat Apron and the Skull Chair rank pretty high up there. I just love a designer that has some real style and originality.

Skull Ring Pillow

Filexd under: Accessories, Furniture, Jewelry — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 8:26 pm

Skull Ring PillowAre you getting married soon? If you are and you are into all things scary then you just have to get one of these pillows to put your rings on. I wish I could get married all over again just so I could use one of these Skull Ring Pillows! These are so beautiful, I just can’t stand it. I want to order one just to have it in my house. They are 10″ square, so maybe as a small pillow on my sofa. They are hand sewn by a woman in North Carolina. She makes them in different fabrics and I’m hoping eventually a blue and black one will appear. That would match the best in my house. The set includes the pillow and a garter for $42.95, which is a little steep, but worth it for the handmade quality that’s involved. Apparently these were even featured in a Modern Bride article. She also does celestial themed sets that I am fond of as well. Now if only she would make full size pillows then I would be very happy.

Bird Pillow

Filexd under: Accessories, Bed & Bath, Decor, Furniture, Nature, TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 8:06 pm

Bird PillowOne of the scariest movies ever made was The Birds. At least it is for me. That movie just makes me shiver. Whenever I see it I spend weeks getting creeped out every time I see a bird and God forbid I should see more than one. That will send me running into the nearest building. Hitchcock was a brilliant director who could make something so sweet and innocent into the most terrifying thing ever. This Bird Pillow reminded me of The Birds the second I saw it. I know I could never have this in my house. Way too scary! I’d never go near a bird and I actually love birds. This pillow is even worse than just a pillow with a bird on it. The birds on this pillow look like they are swarming and coming in for the kill. Way too creepy for me. I draw the line at the bird pillow.

Skullstar Throw

Filexd under: Accessories, Bed & Bath, Decor, Furniture — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 6:49 pm

Skullstar ThrowIt actually takes very little in life to make me happy. Unfortunately, I do have expensive taste and those items make me very happy. Once in a great while I come across something that I expect to be expensive and I am happy to see that it isn’t that bad. In those cases I usually buy the item immediately thinking I’m getting a great deal. Scary Hubby does not always agree. He always says that just because it’s not expensive doesn’t mean we need it. He reacted that way when I received this Skullstar throw in the mail the other day. “Don’t you have enough blankets with skulls on them?” I of course responded that this is a throw and not a blanket. We don’t have any throws with skulls on them. “Aren’t they the same thing?” “Nope. Blankets are for your bed and throws are for the sofa when you get a chill.” He couldn’t realistically argue that point, so he gave up and walked away. Kill ‘em with logic I always say. Plus, he knows better than to argue with me.

Raven Feathered Chair

Filexd under: Art, Furniture — Tags: , , , — jane @ 6:49 pm

black_feather_chairA reader directed me to this Black Feather Chair and I just had to share it with you. It is so deliciously creepy. This was designed by Elyse Hochstadt back in 2007 and was featured at FIVEten Studio. The actual name of the chair is Portrait of George 1. I covet this chair and I must have it. I’m sure the $7500 price tag is a misprint, right? I’m sure they left out the period and it’s really $75. I’m going to get on a plane, march right on over to the studio in Oakland, California and slap down my $75! They better give it to me too, because clearly it was made with me in mind. Just think… a chair designed just for me. How lovely. Now if only I can scrape the money together for a plane ticket.

Thanks Doomsday For the link.

Skull Sofa

Filexd under: Art, Furniture, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 8:53 pm

Skull Deprivation ChamberWell, technically it’s called a Sensory Deprivation Skull. This was designed back in 2007 by artist Joep van Lieshout for his studio Atelier Van Lieshout. This is the same guy that designed the Skull Sauna I covered a while back. Seems he really likes to design big skulls. This one opens up to reveal a seating area. No word on whether the comfy lining is included or the cost. The skull is made of reinforced fiberglass and measures approximately 59″ x 43″ x 54″. Only 10 were made, so good luck if you have your heart set on one. Just think: you could curl up in it and read your favorite mystery or you could also get in and close the doors for the ultimate getaway from all of your troubles. Why bother taking a relaxing vacation? You can save all of that money and hole up inside this for a week. So what if you go a little crazy feeling like you might actually be inside John Malkovich’s head?

Skull Chair

Filexd under: Furniture, Office — Tags: , , , — jane @ 6:28 pm

Now this Tattooed Skull Chair is cool! If it wasn’t $4000 I’d already own it. This comes from the Mama-Tried Studios located in Brooklyn and is designed by Scott Campbell owner of Saved Tattoo. It’s actually a leather chair that is hand tattooed and apparently takes just as long to do as tattooing a person. They also offer tattooed leather pillows that might be more in your budget for $125. Check out their website for a bunch of other items as well. One particular item that I am coveting and I might just have to give in to is the laser etched replacement backs for Apple laptops. They cost $200, but they are so awesome and you can bet you won’t see a bunch of them around. There are quite a few designs, but I am particular to the shown below.Skull Chair

Coffin Couch

Filexd under: Furniture — Tags: , , , — jane @ 4:15 pm

If you are a coffin lover then here are two to die for. The Coffin Couch on the left is made from an actual coffin! It can be custom made and sells for $3500 and is also available in a chair. The Closing Coffin Couch on the right can also be used as a table and is available in purple, red or black velvet and also sells for $3500. My question is: When was the last time you were at a funeral and thought, “Hey lets pop that sucker open and have a seat!”? I know I claim to be the queen of all things scary, but I’m not sure about this. At first I thought it was totally cool. The more I thought about it, though, the creepier it got. It’s one thing to sit in it I guess, but can you imagine lying down on the closing one to watch your favorite television show and it slams shut? I have to admit it would be great for a lazy vampire. He could place it right in front of his television. When it’s time for bed just lie down and close it up. When you wake up just open and turn on the tube. So, if you have any vampire friends this may just be the perfect gift. It would take a big bite out of your wallet, I admit, but wouldn’t it be worth it? Since you bought them such a nice gift, he might be less likely to take a bite out of you! Closing Coffin CouchCoffin Couch
