Scary Peeps

Filexd under: Art, Food & Candy, TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:01 pm

The PeepsOkay, I admit it. Now and then I take a walk on the normal side and check out Cuteoverload.com. It’s not something I’m proud of, but sometimes a ridiculously cute little bunny or kitty can put a smile on my face. I was in the middle of giving into this need when I was rewarded with something that’s a little more my style. I’ve made no secret of my love for all things Hitchcock, so when I came across this Peep remake of The Birds I was a very happy Scary Jane. I love the imagination of people. I personally hate peeps. I think they taste disgusting, but they sure make for some cool dioramas. This one was done by Jill Goebel of Alexandria, VA and was a semifinalist in the fourth annual Washington Post Peeps Diorama Contest.

Chocolate Skull

Filexd under: Apparel, Food & Candy — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 6:52 pm

Chocolate Skull T-ShirtIt’s T-Shirt Tuesday again and here’s this weeks installment. This is a Chocolate Skull T-Shirt. It’s even melting which I think makes it look even more scary. I personally love dark chocolate and I think this would look more appetizing to me if it was made out of that. It may supposed to be made out of milk chocolate, but I think it looks like something else. If you don’t know what I mean take another look at it and if you still don’t see it obviously your brain is not as sick as mine.

Killibinbin

Filexd under: Bar, Books, Food & Candy, Games, Toys/Games — Tags: , , , — jane @ 5:40 pm

Killibinbin CabernetKillibinbin Scaredy CatLast night Scary Hubby and I had a few friends over for game night. One of my good friends (now best friend) decided to bring me a bottle of wine she happened to come across that she knew I’d like. We have a great bunch of friends. They know what I like, so anything remotely scary is brought to the Scary Jane alter to be oo’d and ah’d over. Well, this time they struck gold. This is a wine from Australia called Killibinbin. They make quite a few different wines, but I received the Scaredy Cat Cabernet Malbec. What makes these wines so great, you ask impatiently? Well, my little pain in the ass, besides being fun to say they have really cool labels. They look like the old pulp mystery novel covers they had back in the day. This of course brings together three of my favorite things. Wine, books and scary stuff. I haven’t tried the wine yet, because the bottle is so neat, but I can imagine that I’ll love it no matter what just because of the presentation. I’m easy that way.

Creepy Mug?

Filexd under: Food & Candy, kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 6:26 pm

Creepy Crawly mugSo, I’m upset today. I’m also the biggest klutz ever. I went to get my coffee as usual this morning and as I was getting my favorite mug out it just slipped from my hands and broke. I swear it was like it was greased up or something. It was a really cool mug shaped like a skull. I’ve been looking to replace it today, but have not seen the same one yet. I’ve had it for many years, so they may not make it anymore. There are other skull shaped mugs, but not as neat as mine was. Even though this isn’t skull shaped I found a really creepy mug online that I fell in love with (at right), but it does not seem to be available anymore. Anyone know where I can get one of these? Anyone seen any creepy mugs online that you can point me to? I can’t just drink out of my plain black mugs every day. This mug fit me, it was my muse and I miss it.

Skull Cake

Filexd under: Food & Candy, kitchen — Tags: , , , — jane @ 7:30 pm

Skull CakeI’ve seen many skull cakes over the years, but this one really takes the cake. Ha Ha! Anyway, it is actually the best one I’ve seen. Unfortunately, with this particular cake no one seems to know where it came from. It appears on many websites and a reader actually sent this one to me, but I can’t find anything out about it. I would love to know more. I particularly want to know if that is chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream inside. And what makes the shell? It just looks delicious.

*Thanks Lisa for the picture, but not the craving.

Scary Wedding

Filexd under: Art, Food & Candy, Misc., TV/Movies, Uncategorized, kitchen — Tags: , , , — jane @ 1:37 am

Scary Wedding CakeA reader sent this picture in to me. She said she was getting married and they were planning on doing a scary themed wedding. This is the cake design that they found online and are having copied by their bakery. I don’t know where this picture is from so I can’t give credit to anyone. I absolutely love this cake. I’ve seen scary themed wedding cakes before. A lot of people have been doing the whole Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse Bride, but I applaud these two for going just plain scary and not relying on pre-made props. I love these movies as much as the next guy, but from what I’ve seen it’s pretty easy to throw that kind of wedding. From her description they are doing it all themselves and I can totally get behind that! I almost wish Scary Hubby and I could do it again, so we could have this cake too.

*Thanks Dubus for the pic and yes I think it’s great…obviously.

Skull Utensils

Filexd under: Accessories, Food & Candy, kitchen — Tags: , , , — jane @ 5:20 pm

Skull Cutlery linkMake your Christmas a Skull Christmas with these Skull Utensils. Actually that would be a pretty expensive set to buy considering it’s $25 for one knife, one fork and one spoon! Plus they are just made of plastic! Who would buy that? They are totally cool and would look awesome on my table tomorrow, but not at that price. They also come in orange and white. Not sure why you would want them in orange. Well, I guess for Halloween. Anyway they are on sale for this price, so move quickly or someone might actually pony up the money for these.

Crystal Head Vodka

Filexd under: Bar, Food & Candy — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 3:26 pm

Crystal Head VodkaAre you heading to some parties for the holidays? You know you never want to arrive empty handed. Well, to show off your unique personality, or as some would say weird, why not buy them a bottle of Crystal Head Vodka? The bottle alone is worth the $49.99 that it will cost you. Plus there is a fun website where you can hear all about the thirteen crystal skulls that were scattered around the world thousands of years ago from Dan Akroyd who is part owner of the company. The vodka is even supposedly filtered through diamonds, though it’s hard to know how much to believe from the video. Either way this makes a great gift and I’ll expect mine to arrive soon from one of you guys!

Mori Ex Cacao

Filexd under: Food & Candy — Tags: , , — jane @ 6:02 pm

skull chocolatesI like millions of people get very excited about chocolate. I especially like really good dark chocolate. A Hersey bar just doesn’t do it for me. I mean I’ll eat it if nothing else is around when the desire strikes, but it doesn’t satisfy me. If Scary Hubby is going to buy me a box of chocolate he knows it has to be the best. Preferably Godiva Truffles. Today as I was searching around on the internet I came across something so exciting that my mouth just waters thinking about it. A chocolate company called Valerie Confections makes a chocolate collection called Mori Ex Cacao (Death by Chocolate). This isn’t just any old lump of chocolate either. These chocolates are shaped like skulls and come wrapped in a black silk box and ribbon. The three flavors include scorched caramel in milk chocolate, bitter brandied cherry inside white chocolate, and curious chili piped into dark chocolate. They aren’t cheap at $65.00 for a box of three large pieces, but I’m sure oh so worth it for a special occasion.

Jello Eyeballs

Filexd under: Food & Candy, Halloween Decor, Recipes, kitchen — Tags: , — jane @ 11:24 am

A reader sent this recipe in to me, so I thought I’d share it with you. I’ve never made these, but I can’t wait until later this week to try it. All you need is an eyeball jello mold, and a few ingredients. You can also use round ice cube trays or even the round artist pallets that you can buy in any art store. As long as you clean it thoroughly you can use anything that has the right shape.

Ingredients:Jello Eyeballs

3 tsp of unflavored gelatin

Food coloring (blue, green, red and yellow)

Cooking Oil Spray

3 Tbsp low fat milk

1 1/2 Tbsp sugar

1/2 Tbsp imitation lemon or coconut extract. (your choice)

Cold and boiled water

Straw, cotton ball, toothpick and a container with a small spout for filling.

Instructions for Whites of Eyes:

Spray a small amount of cooking oil inside of the cavity of the plastic mold. Put 2  1/2 tsp of gelatin in a bowl. Add 1/4 cup boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved. Add 1/4 cup cold water and stir well. Stir in 3 Tbsp of low fat milk, 1/2 Tbsp of extract, and 1 1/2 Tbsp of sugar. Stir well. Using a container with a small spout, pour the liquid into the mold. Place the mold in the refrigerator overnight. After the gelatin solidifies, take out the white eyes.

Iris Eye Color Instructions:

Put 1/2 tsp gelatin in a small bowl. Add 1 Tbsp boiling water. Stir until dissolved. Stir in 1 Tbsp cold water. Add a drop or two of any food coloring that you desire, and stir. Use a straw to fill the iris craters by first dipping one end of the straw into the liquid. Then, place your thumb over the other end of the straw to trap the liquid in the straw. Release the liquid from the straw into the iris until it is filled. The iris will solidify in the refrigerator within minutes.

Making the Pupil in the Eye:

Mix the following food colors in a small bowl: 2 drops red, 1 drop blue, and one drop green.  Dip the end of a toothpick into this mixture. Jab the toothpick into the middle of the iris. Repeat the process until the pupil is large enough to see.

Making the Bloodshot Eye Effect:

Drop a few drops of red food coloring onto a plate. Take a cotton ball or a Q-tip and loosen the fibers so that they look frayed. Dip the cotton lightly into the food coloring. Lightly dab the white part of the eyeball until the desired effect is achieved.

Thanks to Ghoulgirl for this great recipe!
