Bone Collector Brush

Filexd under: Accessories,Decor,Fairy Tales,Food & Candy,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:30 pm

Sometimes I go to my regular haunts (stores) and I just don’t find anything interesting. Once in awhile, like last week, I get lucky. I went into Tuesday Morning even though it was a Thursday and started looking around. If you don’t know what Tuesday Morning is then I feel very sorry for you. It’s basically a Ross/TJ Maxx type store, but has upscale household goods. Anyway, they have great stuff sometimes. I found this fantastic Skull Kitchen Brush. They only had it in purple, orange and green. I would have preferred black or even blue, but I settled for the purple. I only paid $3.99, so I bought a bunch of them. Unfortunately I can only find them online for $7.99. Still a deal if you ask me. Now I’m not the type of girl that exactly likes doing dishes. In fact it’s really Scary Hubby’s chore, but having this little guy to use may just get me to do it once in a while. I have now affectionately named him King Scrubadish since he’s purple and purple is the color of royalty. Plus it kind of looks like he has a crown on. Maybe I should go all crafty on him and bling him up a bit with some rhinestones, so he lives up to his name. Nah, I think King Scrubadish is more of a snob. Better to go naked a la “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

Glass Spider

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Arts/Crafts,Collectibles,Decor,Nature — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 9:04 pm

I don’t really like spiders. I’m actually terrified of them. For that reason I really like collecting them. Not real ones mind you, but figurines, pictures etc. Spiders are very beautiful creatures, I’m just not a fan of their ability to bite and possibly poison me. Figurines can’t hurt you unless you break them and then you can get a nasty cut. I know that part from experience. I got this picture of a Glass Spider sent to me by a reader and I became obsessed with finding it. I eventually found it at CoolBugStuff.com and I was very excited to see that it was only $29.99. I was terrified that it would be super expensive. They are hand blown by a guy in St. Petersburg, Russia. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I decided that I must own it, so I went to order it and found their system is not working “at this time” and to check back. What?! That sucks! Maybe I’ll try and call them. Either way I can’t wait to add her to my collection. I have seen many different and pretty glass spiders, but none as beautiful as this one. This one looks really creepy and like it’s about to attack at any moment. Kind of describes me!

*Thanks JennieOh for the picture! :)

Goth Pillows

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Bed & Bath,Decor,Furniture,Halloween Decor,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:45 pm

I bet you guys didn’t know that in my house it’s Halloween every day? Okay, well maybe you did. Let’s just say that when I was decorating it I was inspired by The Addams Family. The TV show, not the movie. I always wished that it was in color though, so I could see what colors they used. What I wouldn’t do for some of the stuff from that set! Anyway, my colors ended up being mostly black and blue. Well, I found these great Goth Pillows online, but unfortunately they are in green and black. They were created by WebSpinstress and are just so deliciously creepy. Even though I would love to see them in blue and black I have a feeling they would not be as cool. The green satin has rips and holes in it like it’s old and worn. The whole effect has a zombie feel to it and I think that would be lost if it came in other colors. It does come in a copper color, but that doesn’t work as well for me. I’ll just have to buy them in green and find a way to fit them in. You can too for the low price of $49.99 for the set of two. There are only a limited number available, so hurry if you want them for yourself.

Dead Sexy Bath Products

Filexd under: Bed & Bath,Decor — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 3:11 pm

I know I am not your garden variety girl. I just don’t like what your normal girl likes. Getting together with my girlfriends to get a manicure is not my idea of a good time. I don’t love pink, though I do love Pink. I don’t like ruffles, but I do like Ruffles. I really enjoy being funny, though. Anyway, I’m not a girly girl. I don’t squeal with delight and I never have. There is something that will make me get all excited. Anything with a skull on it, of course, but also things that should be girly like perfume and bubble bath that has a dark twist to it. I have a very bad habit of collecting unusual bath products. I don’t really even like taking baths or wearing perfume. My bathrooms are littered with various soaps, bubble bath, perfume etc that will never be used. I always open them to take a whiff, but then it gets closed back up and put on a shelf to be admired. The other day I got very excited when a reader sent me a link to the Tokyo Milk website. I fell in love with all of their products. The company’s product design is just awesome, but I especially liked their Dead Sexy line. I immediately ordered the bubble bath, perfume, soap and lotion. I can’t wait to not use them.

Spiderweb Clock

Filexd under: Accessories,Decor,kitchen,Office — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:46 pm

I love clocks. I’ve always been fascinated by how they work. I used to take them apart as a kid and try to build my own with a spooky twist. Now it’s not so much fun since most are made with batteries. I still scope out the antique shops and ebay for them, but they have become quite collectable and therefore more expensive. My love goes back to the fact that I’m a freak about getting places on time. I absolutely hate to be late (no rhyme intended). We all have our issues. I just happen to have quite a few of them. I was trolling around online for clocks and came across this funky Spiderweb Clock. This time somebody already did the work for me and made it spooky. I think it’s great! The one thing I would change, if I could, would be that the spider be attached to the minute hand. I’m a picky bitch though, so I’ll let that one go. Makes a perfect kitchen clock. I have so many clocks in our house, so I’m not sure I have room for it. Also don’t know if I can convince my family that we are in dire need of another clock.

Halloween Clearance

Filexd under: Accessories,Decor,Halloween Decor,Holidays — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:40 pm

Listen, I know it’s February, but if you’re anything like me Halloween is a year round holiday. What most people will only put out for Halloween, we have as our regular decor. I have found over the years that February is one of the best months for picking up scary stuff for my house. No one, except a few of us smart people, is thinking about Halloween this time of year. Everything that was left over from last year has been marked down to practically nothing. Most people would assume it’s just junk left, but I don’t find that to be true. A lot of times I see something I love in the fall, but decide to wait because it’s too pricey. Once Halloween is over the stores do a quick clearance and then the stuff disappears to make room for Christmas. After that’s over they do the quick clearance again. Nothing gets put up for January, so they haul out what’s left from Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas and slash the prices. By then no one is giving any thought to Halloween, so it keeps getting marked down until it’s gone. That’s when I swoop in for the kill. Most of the time that item I was coveting is now half the price or even less. The one thing about this, though, is that this mostly happens online. A few stores will put their clearance stuff in some hidden corner of the store. Most of the time, though, it’s only available on their sites because alot of the bigger stores have to send their stuff back to warehouses. Do a search on Google for Halloween Clearance and you’ll be surprised by the amount of listings. Anything from Target to BuyCostumes.com to the higher end things at Grandin Road.

Oddities

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Books,Collectibles,Decor,Furniture,Halloween Decor,Nature,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:35 pm

Let’s face it, I am a little weird. Some would even say very weird. I collect unusual things, I dress weird and I decorate my house strangely. My favorite movie quote is, “I, myself, am strange and unusual.” Do you know what movie that’s from? It’s from Beetlejuice. Lydia says this when she is talking to the two ghostly inhabitants of her parent’s new house. I have always thought that it describes me perfectly. My extended family all find me rather odd and have never understood me. Once in a while I come across someone who is like minded and it helps me remember that there are many people out there like me. I have recently discovered a new show and it has quickly became my favorite. I’m actually surprised that it ever got on TV, considering it’s sometimes high ick factor. It’s called Oddities and it’s on the Discovery Science channel. It’s about an unusual antique store in New York called Obscura Antiques and Oddities. It follows the two owners as they deal with buying and selling strange old items. Anything from real skulls to old medical equipment to coffins. If it’s weird and old they probably have it or want to buy it. It’s a fascinating show and I highly recommend it to all of my strange and unusual friends.

Anticraft

Filexd under: Apparel,Art,Arts/Crafts,Books,Crafts,Decor,Fashion,Jewelry — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:16 pm

I am quite the crafty person, as you have probably already guessed. I’ve always got multiple projects going. My big problem and I do mean big is that I am not the cutesy crafter type. I hate the traditional projects you see in books where everything is sweet and pink with delicate ivory lace all over it. I want edgy stuff which luckily has become a little easier to find. Apparently I wasn’t the only frustrated crafter. I was talking to a friend tonight and she told me about this book called Anticraft. She was looking for something different as well and came across it. I borrowed it and after spending a few minutes looking through it I promptly ordered it. The full title is Anticraft: Knitting, Beading and Stitching for the Slightly Sinister. The title alone is cool, but I do like to think that I am more than just slightly sinister. At first glance the cover is not very interesting and may not look like it has anything in it worth looking at. Wrong. This is a perfect example of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. Wonderful things await you inside. The whole layout of the book is nice and creepy with great photographs and includes knitting, crocheting, sewing and jewelry projects. The book even includes tips and sidebars that will help you embrace your dark nature. The authors also have a website where you can get even more of your Anticraft on. Love, love, love it!

Hollywood Is Dead

Filexd under: Art,Collectibles,Decor,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:51 am

You know I love movies, right? If you haven’t figured that out by now well… you’re just a dumbass. I came across a fantastic artist that combines my two loves of horror and movies. Read on if you want to find out more.

“A ghastly and infectious virus has spread through Los Angeles, home to the celebrated movie makers of the world. While seeming to send Hollywood greats to their grave, the dead have reanimated with a new hunger for flesh… and brains. Now the rotting corpses have performed a postmortem on tinsel town, and the cinematic icons will never be the same.” At least that’s what poster artist Matt Busch says when talking about his latest and greatest project. Matt takes famous movie posters and painstakingly recreates them with a scary edge called Hollywood is Dead. The project originally got started in 2009 when he was approached by Lucasfilm to create a poster that would combine Star Wars and zombies that would promote a new book on starwars.com called Death Troopers. The fans went crazy for it and since then he has started doing classic movie posters. He has done twenty so far and plans to publish a coffee table book one day. You can have your own 19×13 copy of any of them for $19.95. That will just have to do until he comes out with that book. You can see them all here. My personal fav is Breakfast is Tiffany.

Fright Before Christmas

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Decor,Holidays,Misc. — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 5:21 pm

Are you like me and have money to throw away? No? Well, I don’t actually either. I’d like to though. If I did I would probably buy this Christmas decoration. It’s called Ghost Bust Fright Before Christmas and is sold by Hauntedprops.com for… drumroll please… $1,499.00! Basically it is a life-size bust that comes with a small projector and a DVD. The DVD is played on a DVD player (not provided) and projected onto the bust to make it look like it’s actually moving. You can also purchase something called a Control Freak Media Monster. This will allow it to be set off by a mat or motion sensor. It also includes the DVD player and costs another $259.77. Not sure why the 77 cents is necessary. If you still don’t feel that you’ve spent enough money you can buy a Blaster that blows a burst of air at you as you walk by for $140.00. It does look pretty cool, but I don’t see myself spending that much money on a Christmas prop. Check out the video, maybe you’ll find that it’s worth it.
