Zombie Gnomes

Filexd under: Accessories,Animals,Art,Collectibles,Decor,Fairy Tales,Nature,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:12 am

If you have been diligently reading my blog (you better be) you would know that I just love to piss off my neighbors. I know, not very neighborly, but oh so much fun. Besides, it seems like it has become sort of a running joke in the neighborhood. What will Jane do next? Most of them get a good laugh out of it since we do take good care of our yard, but there are a few that are not so thrilled. That’s mainly why I do it. If they laughed and enjoyed it I’d get bored.
Everyone has seen the pink yard flamingos and a few have even seen the skeleton flamingos, but now a couple of artists selling under the name Chris and Janes Place on Etsy have come up with their own twist. Zombie Gnomes feeding on one of those oh so tacky pink flamingos. They are hand casted, hand painted and sell for $55. They have been getting so many orders for these that they are a little behind in production, but so worth the wait. I am so excited to get mine. Now I just need to think of a great way to reveal it to the neighbors

Ouija Board

Filexd under: Art,Arts/Crafts,Collectibles,Games,Halloween Decor,Misc. — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 4:54 pm

Found this link about the Ouija Board through the Fright Catalog website and just knew I had to share it with you guys. I love Ouija Boards. Not because I believe in it, but because of the artwork that you can find on them. Especially the older ones. Go ahead and read this. It’s interesting reading and gives you a little background on it’s history. While you’re at it check out the Fright Catalog website. If you have never visited them before you’re in for a treat. They have great Halloween props.

Skull Mug: The Search Continues…

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Collectibles,Food & Candy,kitchen,News/Articles — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:14 am

Okay, I admit it, I’m stupid. Surprised? Thought Scary Jane was perfect in every way? Me too! Actually I used much more colorful language when I was yelling at myself earlier today. Want to know what caused me to turn on myself? Well, here ya go. A few days ago I went into a Ross near my house. I pick up the weirdest stuff in there sometimes, so it’s worth a peek now and then. Unfortunately this time I was not finding much that caught my attention until I wandered into the mug isle. There on the shelf was a beautiful Skull Mug. In fact there were four of them. As you may remember I broke my favorite skull mug a long time ago and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. There are hundreds available out there, do a Google search, but none of them were as cool. These were not like my old one, but I just knew that it was the one for me. I looked at the price and they were ridiculously cheap at $3.99 each. Since I didn’t have a basket I left them there and continued looking through the store with every intention of coming back to get them. It was about 2pm and I was getting really hungry since I hadn’t had lunch, so I started going through the store a little faster. I didn’t find anything else I wanted and started to go back to the mugs when I saw the huge checkout line. I knew my stomach couldn’t wait much longer to be fed, so I decided (for some dumb ass reason) that I wasn’t so sure about the mugs anyway and I should just sleep on it. That night I realized that I should have just bought them. They were awesome and they were cheap. The next day I was just too busy to get over there. Today I was really excited about them and determined to go back. I got to Ross after lunch this time and went straight to the mug isle. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but they were all gone! I asked the lady that was stocking the shelves if there were more, but of course there weren’t. She then suggested I try other Ross stores. I got out to my car and tried calling all of the stores anywhere near me and no one had them. I spent the next 15 minutes yelling at myself in the car. Calling myself every horrible name I could think of and even made up a few new ones. I have searched endlessly online to no avail. I have decided that I am not talking to myself for a few days, so I can cool off. I mean how stupid can one person be? Learn from me. Never ever pass something up just because you don’t want to stand in line. You’ll regret it and never forgive yourself. This ends today’s lesson.

Skull Stationary

Filexd under: Collectibles,Misc.,Office,stationary — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:57 am

These days people write emails or text. They just don’t write letters anymore. It seems to be a lost art form. Once upon a time I just loved stationary. I spent entirely too much time and money in my local Hallmark. Over the years all of that stationary has been packed away and relegated to the attic never to be seen or heard from again. I recently got a bee up my butt and decided I wanted to do some letter writing again. As I was searching online for some cool new stationary, my super intelligent Scary Hubby asked, “What about all of that stationary in the attic?” Dumb ass. He just doesn’t get it. I ended up finding this fantastic black Skull Stationary Set on the Vivre site. Plain black with just the simple white skull. Perfect. It even comes with a silver pen because obviously my usual ink of choice, black, would not show up. One problem. It costs $120. Really?!? For 10 envelopes, a pad of paper and a pen? I mean it’s gorgeous, but I’m not convinced that it costs that much to produce. I know, quality paper… yada, yada, yada, but still not buying it. Literally or figuratively. I guess my search will continue on while Scary Hubby keeps mumbling about the box in the attic.

Italian Pirate Mask

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Collectibles,Decor — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 6:54 pm

When I was younger I just loved those ceramic Mardi Gras type masks that you hung on the wall. They were really popular and you could get them everywhere. Even though they were always pretty creepy I always wanted to find the scariest ones. Scary Hubby never liked them, so over the years some of them broke and the rest are where all those socks are that I lost in the dryer. You know, that magical land of lost stuff. I really don’t have a desire to have them back, so that’s okay. I did find a cool one online though, that I would love to have. Like most people I love pirates, but I don’t think there’s too many people that love them as much as Scary Hubby. Since he never liked them I thought I would never have one again, but then I found this Pirate Mask. I know once I show it to him he’ll like it. It’s still a mask, but it’s a creepy pirate, so he will probably give in. It’s available at Pier 1 as part of their Halloween collection, though I think it’s more of a year round thing. They have others, but I think this one’s the coolest. Now I just have to convince my pirate obsessed Scary Hubby. Shouldn’t be too tough.

Alien Cookie Jar

Filexd under: Accessories,Bar,Collectibles,Food & Candy,kitchen,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 2:46 pm

I have a confession to make. Don’t laugh at me, but I did not see the movie Alien until a few years ago. Scary Hubby kept bugging me to see it, but for some reason it didn’t interest me. I’m not a big Sci-Fi fan and I thought this was just another run of the mill spaceship in peril movie. Finally we were visiting Scary Hubby’s parents in Philadelphia and he and his Dad decided it was time I sat and watched this movie with them. Since I was trying to be a good daughter-in-law I had to give in. An hour later I was convinced this was one of the scariest Sc-Fi movie I had ever seen and added it to my list of great scary movies. I have since seen the sequels which were all good, but nothing compared to the first. I wish I had given in sooner and seen Alien when I was younger, but it still scared the crap out of me. So, I was on vacation in Hawaii last month. I know what you’re thinking and no I am not a sun or heat worshiper. Wearing all black and going to Hawaii don’t really mix, but Scary Hubby and Scary Daughter wanted to go, so I gave in. Turns out I had a great time which I will save for a later post. Anyway, I was poking around in a store and found this Alien Cookie Jar. So cool. I had never seen one like this before. I secretly bought it for Scary Hubby since it’s one of his all time favorite movies and gave it to him when we got back. Needless to say, he was thrilled and it now sits proudly on our kitchen counter daring all to take a cookie. I especially like it because the Alien’s hand looks like a skeleton. Scary Daughter has not seen the movie, but insists that we have to make Alien baby shaped cookies to put inside. So, now I am off on another quest to find an Alien cookie cutter. How do I get myself into these things? Any ideas where I could find one?

Glass Spider

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Arts/Crafts,Collectibles,Decor,Nature — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 9:04 pm

I don’t really like spiders. I’m actually terrified of them. For that reason I really like collecting them. Not real ones mind you, but figurines, pictures etc. Spiders are very beautiful creatures, I’m just not a fan of their ability to bite and possibly poison me. Figurines can’t hurt you unless you break them and then you can get a nasty cut. I know that part from experience. I got this picture of a Glass Spider sent to me by a reader and I became obsessed with finding it. I eventually found it at CoolBugStuff.com and I was very excited to see that it was only $29.99. I was terrified that it would be super expensive. They are hand blown by a guy in St. Petersburg, Russia. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I decided that I must own it, so I went to order it and found their system is not working “at this time” and to check back. What?! That sucks! Maybe I’ll try and call them. Either way I can’t wait to add her to my collection. I have seen many different and pretty glass spiders, but none as beautiful as this one. This one looks really creepy and like it’s about to attack at any moment. Kind of describes me!

*Thanks JennieOh for the picture! :)

Frog Zombie

Filexd under: Arts/Crafts,Bed & Bath,Collectibles,Nature,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:05 am

I usually stay away from blogging about things on Etsy. Not because I don’t like it, but because I think I like it too much. Well, that and the fact that a lot of the things sold are one of a kind items. This time I had to make an exception, though. I came across this little Frog Zombie and just fell in love. You know I have such a weakness for zombies. He’s made by Plushroom Soup. Check out some of the designers other zombified animals. I’m especially partial to the Unicorn Zombie since I hate unicorns. What makes them so cute is that they are made to order and the designer will customize it for you. You decide how bloody and gory you want them to be. The arms and legs are held on with magnets, so they are removable. The frog doesn’t come cheap, though. He sells for $48, but totally worth it to get your handmade 10″ Frog Zombie made to your liking. Now if only I could find a real one…

Oddities

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Books,Collectibles,Decor,Furniture,Halloween Decor,Nature,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:35 pm

Let’s face it, I am a little weird. Some would even say very weird. I collect unusual things, I dress weird and I decorate my house strangely. My favorite movie quote is, “I, myself, am strange and unusual.” Do you know what movie that’s from? It’s from Beetlejuice. Lydia says this when she is talking to the two ghostly inhabitants of her parent’s new house. I have always thought that it describes me perfectly. My extended family all find me rather odd and have never understood me. Once in a while I come across someone who is like minded and it helps me remember that there are many people out there like me. I have recently discovered a new show and it has quickly became my favorite. I’m actually surprised that it ever got on TV, considering it’s sometimes high ick factor. It’s called Oddities and it’s on the Discovery Science channel. It’s about an unusual antique store in New York called Obscura Antiques and Oddities. It follows the two owners as they deal with buying and selling strange old items. Anything from real skulls to old medical equipment to coffins. If it’s weird and old they probably have it or want to buy it. It’s a fascinating show and I highly recommend it to all of my strange and unusual friends.

Hollywood Is Dead

Filexd under: Art,Collectibles,Decor,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:51 am

You know I love movies, right? If you haven’t figured that out by now well… you’re just a dumbass. I came across a fantastic artist that combines my two loves of horror and movies. Read on if you want to find out more.

“A ghastly and infectious virus has spread through Los Angeles, home to the celebrated movie makers of the world. While seeming to send Hollywood greats to their grave, the dead have reanimated with a new hunger for flesh… and brains. Now the rotting corpses have performed a postmortem on tinsel town, and the cinematic icons will never be the same.” At least that’s what poster artist Matt Busch says when talking about his latest and greatest project. Matt takes famous movie posters and painstakingly recreates them with a scary edge called Hollywood is Dead. The project originally got started in 2009 when he was approached by Lucasfilm to create a poster that would combine Star Wars and zombies that would promote a new book on starwars.com called Death Troopers. The fans went crazy for it and since then he has started doing classic movie posters. He has done twenty so far and plans to publish a coffee table book one day. You can have your own 19×13 copy of any of them for $19.95. That will just have to do until he comes out with that book. You can see them all here. My personal fav is Breakfast is Tiffany.
