The Most Expensive Skull…Ever

Filexd under: Accessories, Art, Collectibles, Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 6:11 pm

For the Love of GodYesterday’s post about the skull stapler got me thinking. For some reason I started wondering what the most expensive skull ever made was. I started searching and very quickly came up with the answer and boy is it expensive. It’s called For the Love of God and has been named the most expensive piece of contemporary art ever made. There was even a book called For the Love of God: The Making of the Diamond Skull written about it. It was made by artist Damien Hirst using a skull that he found in a shop. The skull is believed to be the skull of a 35 year old man who lived between 1720 and 1810. It’s covered in platinum and diamonds. It has 8,601 diamonds and comes in at 1,106.18 carats. It’s the most expensive piece of art ever created, costing between $16 and $20 million to make. When it was made the artist put a price tag of 99 million on it. It did not sell, but was eventually purchased by a consortium for 100 million that included the gallery owner and Mr. Hirst himself. The artist said that he was inspired by an Aztec turquoise skull at the British Museum, and hopes that his work will eventually be displayed at the institution. I’d be willing to let him display it at my house. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous and I must have it. Do you think they accept layaway?

Metallic Skull

Filexd under: Accessories, Art, Collectibles, Decor, Halloween Decor, TV/Movies — Tags: , , , — jane @ 3:08 pm

Metallic SkullI found this fantastic skull over at Z Gallerie. They always surprise me with their cool little scary items that they come up with now and then. This Metallic Skull is another one of those nice surprises. It’s not that big at 7″ x 4.5″ x 5.25″, but with the high shininess factor you probably wouldn’t want it any bigger. It will pack quite a punch on it’s own. You could even hang it from the ceiling and use it as a disco ball. I absolutely love this little skull! It reminds me of something in a movie, but I’m drawing a blank at the moment. I’m sure I’ll wake up at some point in the middle of the night and remember it. I’ll post it when I think of it, but until then you will just have to keep refreshing my page and breathlessly await my update. Not going to do that? WTF? What kind of stalker are you anyway?

Ventriloquist Doll

Filexd under: Collectibles, TV/Movies, Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 3:54 pm

Clown Ventriliquist DummyI know I claim to love all things scary and I do, but I draw the line at clowns. Clowns scare the crap out of me and not just because of a movie called It. It seems I may have been born with this fear. I’m not sure how it started. It might be the fact that when I was little Scary Jane there was a small clown painting in my room that was supposed to be cute. I remember laying in bed staring at it and trying to go to sleep. I probably had bad dreams about it. I finally made my Mom take it down. That coupled with the numerous movies and TV shows that featured a killer clown made me what I am today. A quivering idiot at the sight of any clown. Actually the ones that are not meant to be scary are the ones that scare me the most. Those painted smiles cover up the fact that they aren’t really smiling. The Ventriloquist Clown Doll scares me the most. Makes me think of that old movie Magic with Anthony Hopkins. You know the one where the ventriloquist dummy takes control and murders people. So, take a murderous dummy and then make him a clown and you have the one thing that will make me run down the middle of the street screaming in terror. If anyone was thinking of getting me that for Christmas can I please get a cute zombie doll instead?

Voodooz DollDo you have that family member that kinda gets on your nerves? The one you dread seeing every year, but you still have to buy a gift for. Well here’s the perfect gift. A Voodooz Doll! There are four different dolls available: Ezili, Uchawi, Baka and Kennis. Each little voodoo doll has an articulated internal skeleton and is approximately 10″ tall. It comes with voodoo pins, mojo bones, binding twine, a chicken foot and a journal. These are extremely popular little dolls and only a limited number were made. They can be hard to find. If they are no longer available at the above link look around on the internet. I have found them regularly on ebay. Just make sure you stick the pins in and curse it before you give it to them or they could use it on you!
