As I have stated before I am not as crazy about the Twilight series as everyone else seems to be. I mean the books were decent and so far the movies have been fun. I am just not the biggest fan of some of the changes that Stephenie Meyer made to vampire lore. Anyway, I did come across this Vampire Instructions T-Shirt that made me giggle a little and thought I’d pass it on. I wish it wasn’t so Twilight-ish and more general, but it’s still funny. I would assume this t-shirt is meant for the non-vampire person in the relationship (Bella, Buffy, Sookie et al). Obviously some of them need a little more instruction for their newly acquired vampire than others. Maybe if the Cullens had given Bella this t-shirt for her birthday instead she wouldn’t have cut her finger and started that whole mess.
So excited! I just had to share. Just received the artwork that we purchased a while back by Karl Christian Krumpholz. I did a post about him here. I hung it up immediately. It doesn’t really match the colors I have in my house, but when you fall in love with something you just deal with it and find a spot. Widdershin was originally the cover for one of the artist’s comic books called Byron: Die Byron Die. I just love the tiki style that it has. Isn’t it just so cool?
Last night Scary Hubby and I had a few friends over for game night. One of my good friends (now best friend) decided to bring me a bottle of wine she happened to come across that she knew I’d like. We have a great bunch of friends. They know what I like, so anything remotely scary is brought to the Scary Jane alter to be oo’d and ah’d over. Well, this time they struck gold. This is a wine from Australia called Killibinbin. They make quite a few different wines, but I received the Scaredy Cat Cabernet Malbec. What makes these wines so great, you ask impatiently? Well, my little pain in the ass, besides being fun to say they have really cool labels. They look like the old pulp mystery novel covers they had back in the day. This of course brings together three of my favorite things. Wine, books and scary stuff. I haven’t tried the wine yet, because the bottle is so neat, but I can imagine that I’ll love it no matter what just because of the presentation. I’m easy that way.
So you’ve been bitten by a zombie? Bummer. What do you do now? Well, you go out and buy this Zombies for Zombies book immediately. This book will tell you there is no need to panic. Yes, your life is undergoing a major change, but it doesn’t mean you can’t adapt to your new life with style. It’ll tell you how to dress for your new lifestyle, fitness ideas, how to overcome the zombie stigma, dance steps, delicious brain recipes and the all important skin-care techniques to ward off “rotting flesh syndrome”. It even covers the Koma Sutra for those of you that aren’t ready to give up on sex just because you’re a zombie. It’s basically advice and etiquette for the modern zombie and a book you can’t be without. Makes a perfect gift for that special someone that has just been bitten and looking to you, a seasoned zombie, for advice.
I know it’s already the middle of January, but I have another calendar for you that I just couldn’t not talk about. Someone sent me the link to this site where they feature a Coffin Calendar. I believe the calendar is actually called Sexy Coffins Calendar. This calendar is created by Cisa, a funeral home and coffin factory based in Rome, Italy. I suppose it is a way to advertise their…uh…services. On the page you can look through the pictures featured each month. As I was looking through it I noticed something. Well, first off I should point out that each calendar features one or more scantily clad goth girls posing around coffins. Some of them are pretty cool and some of them just T&A crap. On closer inspection, though, you will notice that in every single picture they are using the exact same coffin. Huh? First of all the Calendar is called “Sexy Coffins”. So apparently either they carry only one coffin that they believe to be sexy or it is just a sexy goth girl calendar in disguise. Secondly, I understand putting the scantily clad women around the coffin, but if you are trying to promote your business wouldn’t it make more sense to show a different coffin in each picture? You too can own this calendar for the small price of $16.95, but if you were looking for a brochure from the company look elsewhere.
Since it’s a new year tomorrow I was thinking I needed a calendar. So, Scary Hubby and I went to Borders yesterday and I bought one for my office. Scary calendars are not always easy to find, but I did find a Black Cats Calendar that I loved. It made me think of my little Agatha who is going through the last stages of kidney failure. Scary Hubby said it made him too sad to have it in the house, but I said that it was in honor of her and we do have 2 other black cats in the house. Now I know there are people out there that get nervous around black cats especially if they cross their path, but I like to think of them as good luck. Our three black cats have brought us nothing but happiness and love. Anyway, it’s very rare to have an entirely black cat. Most of them have at least one white hair somewhere. So, if you are superstitious about it, just tell yourself that it’s probably not a solid black cat next time one crosses your path. Unless of course you are going under a ladder at the same time, then all bets are off.
In honor of my sweet little black kitty, Agatha, who is passing away from kidney failure I thought I’d hunt down a black cat t-shirt. I always loved the Edgar Allan Poe story The Black Cat, but I am also a huge fan of The Black Cat (included in the Tales of Terror) movie with Vincent Price. Of course what happens to the cat in that story I do not wish for my girl. I found this great t-shirt based on The Black Cat story on a British site. I can’t seem to find it on this side of the pond, but I really like it and I might just order it. For those of you who can’t make out what the t-shirt reads, it’s a quote from the book: “I had walled the monster up within the tomb”/The Black Cat/Edgar Allan Poe. Very creepy, I must say.
I got this great book from a friend and just have to share. It’s called Grimmer Tales: A Wicked Collection of Happily Never After Stories. It’s brilliantly written and illustrated by Erik Bergstrom. Grimmer Tales is basically a collection of all of your favorite sappy fairy tales and nursery rhymes, but with the sick twist that they all desperately needed. This book will show you what really happened when Jack ate the magic beans and when a giant found the shoe that the old woman and her kids lived in. Prepare to laugh your ass off or, if you’re uptight, to be apalled.
As I have stated before, I am not a fan of wallpaper. Wallpaper is a PAIN to remove when you get tired of it, so I swore off wallpaper years ago. Of course ever since I said that I keep finding more and more wallpaper that I want. Must control myself and not get any…ever. Well maybe this one. Camille Rose Garcia is an amazing artist that creates the most visually creepy and amazing images. Ms. Garcia creates everything from paintings to dolls to books. She has fans out there that are devoted to her unusual art and create amazing tattoos from it. She even created the cool wallpaper on the left, but at about $200 a roll maybe I will have to settle for one of her prints…or not. They start at $400. Maybe she makes coasters?
Being a book store owner I naturally love books as well as all things scary. When I come across something that brings two of my loves together I get very excited and my wallet begins to quiver with anticipation. Here is a book that I have already placed my order for called Wicked Plants: The Weed That Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities written by Amy Stewart. How could I not want this book? The title alone is worth it! I love to add odd and interesting books to my shelves at home. Though I do not have the book in my hot little hands yet, you can take a peak inside on the Amazon website. With titles like Deadly Dinner, Lawn of Death and The Devil’s Bartender the chapter’s names themselves are worth a read. Check out this cute little video the author did about the book.
