I’ve always loved doing my nails a little quirky. My normal is having them painted black with one random dark blue or red on each hand, but once in awhile I switch it up. I found these great Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips recently, so I’ve been doing them a lot as well. They go on ridiculously easy and last for a week to 2 weeks. Apparently there were even Halloween themed ones available during October. Sucks that I missed that, but I’ll be on the look out this year. My favorite up to now is I Love Lacey. Unfortunately they keep discontinuing designs, so who knows how long that will be available.

I’m always looking for things to have in my house that don’t automatically scream Halloween, but is still scary and creepy. I think I can check off Skull Kitchen Towels now. These black towels are embroidered with a dark purple skull damask design and made by Fabulously Fierce on Etsy. I absolutely love this towel, but I would love it even more if the embroidery was a dark royal blue. I wonder if she’ll do custom? Yup! She says it right there in the description. They are a little pricey at $12 for one towel, but you have to keep in mind that they are made by one person trying to make a living, not a big corporation. Oh and they’re gorgeous too.

Since I’ve clearly been on some kind of weird baby kick lately I figured I’d post this little item I’ve had sitting on my desktop for the last few years. I found this Gothic Baby Crib Set from Kustom Kids Bedding quite a while ago and I knew one day I’d write about it. First, though, I must point out how pissed off I am that this didn’t exist when Scary Daughter was a baby. I would just kill for the chance to decorate a nursery again. Not for the baby, I’ve had enough of that, but just for my own pleasure. I guess I always assumed we’d have another Scary Kid, so I could justify purchasing it, but we are just a one Scary Kid kinda family. Maybe I could buy it for that one day in the way way future that I’ll be a Scary Grandma Jane. Luckily Scary Daughter is taking after me and loves all things scary, so I think she’ll be good with that. Do you think it’s too early to shell out the $375 for my 9 year old’s future child? Probably. Make that hopefully!

When I am looking for new stuff to post about I sometimes search on random words put together. A lot of times my word mixtures do not produce anything, but once in awhile I get lucky and hit upon some uber creepy item. Today’s creepy item is the Baby Lamp. Yes, those are the everyday words I searched on. I was just spitballing. I didn’t really think anything would come up of interest. Wow, was I wrong! I thought maybe this was just a design project or something, but no it’s a mass produced item that you can purchase online from a real store. I mean, really?!? What the hell? I love creepy stuff, but this is just weird. Is it really meant for a nursery or is it just a novelty? What really cracks me up is the cord coming out of his butt. Wouldn’t it have been better if it came out of his belly button like an umbilical cord? This little weirdo comes in various colors and can be had for about $100. So, what are you waiting for? Don’t you want one for your desk at work?

Okay, I know I did a post yesterday on soap, but I had to write about this soap that one of my loyal readers alerted me to. These are Soap Fingers made by LoveLeeSoaps on Etsy and are watermelon scented. I have no idea what the connection to watermelon that fingers have except that you use your hands to eat watermelon. You get four realistic looking fingers for $5.00. It’s a great price, but I wonder if I could get a five-finger discount?

Store — jane @ 5:19 pm
I’ve been on a soap kick lately. Actually more of a bath products kick. Ever since I was visiting Texas and went to a store in Dallas called Bath Junkie a couple of weeks ago. You can actually scent and color your own bath products! I had so much fun creating and discovering my own personal scent. The only down side? They didn’t have any red colorant. Unfortunately all of the colors were pretty pale and cutesy. My master bathroom is made up of browns, blacks and deep reds, so I ended up going with the kind of khaki color they had. I’m not particularly wild about their logo either come to think about it. I would have preferred something vintage looking, but that’s just me. I just wish there was a franchise near me. Anyway, I started looking around for some fun scary soap options and came across this Coffin Soap. Absolutely love it. It’s a little pricey at $5.75 a bar, but it would be more for display anyway. I could make a little soap graveyard display for my bathroom! It’s scented with their own Wicked Witch’s Brew fragrance, but you can also request something different. The only thing is… What does it say? Every time I study the picture I think it says something different. I know, I could just email them and ask, but I’m too lazy and what would be the fun in that? Let me know if you can figure it out.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m a bit of a germaphobe. Movies like Contagion and Outbreak are just way too scary horrible for me. Those are just too over the top. I know, crazy right? I’m Scary Jane. I can’t be scared of anything, but I am scared of germs. After all my name isn’t Horrible Jane, though I know some of you may call me that. Anyway, I use hand sanitizer constantly. I keep a bottle in every room of the house, store, car etc. I have never and I repeat never seen a bottle of hand sanitizer that wasn’t just a boring old clear bottle or covered in flowers. Now remember, I am saying that I, Scary Jane, have never seen them. You may have and that’s bloody great, but I am just saying I haven’t (That’s for all you losers that email me complaining about the way I word things, my grammar etc.). Actually I never had a thought to look for anything different. About a month ago I was sent the link to these Scary Hand Sanitizers. They are made by Bath & Body Works. Apparently they have been making Halloween ones for a while now and I have just never seen them (see earlier comment above). They carry quite a few different styles including various bath products and even carry some that are more kid friendly.

When I first saw this Bat Mirror I thought it was totally cool and creepy, but I didn’t understand the name. Maybe I was stupid or just dense, but I didn’t see the connection. This was probably 6 months ago or so. Today I was poking around in my idea file and came across it again. I stared at it and then finally it just popped out at me. Now I just feel like an idiot for not noticing it before. Do you see it? Anyway, I am not a particular fan of the Batman movies, but I do love the old dorky TV show from the 60s. Bruce Wayne had so many bat shaped/themed items, but none of the manufacturers of these items ever figured out that he was the caped crusader? I mean who built that car? Where did they take it when it needed to be repaired? No one ever made the connection? Come to think about it I have a real problem with a lot of super heroes and their supposed secret identities. No one ever figured out that Clark Kent was Superman? Or that Diana Prince was Wonder Woman? The list goes on. How stupid are these people? I may not have seen the bat in the mirror, but even I could see that Prince Adam was He-Man.

I’m not generally a perfume wearer. Most perfumes make me sneeze, but that might be because people put on way way way too much. I basically just stay away from that stuff and in turn do not pay much attention to new perfume releases. Needless to say I am not a perfume nerd. Today, though, I was intrigued by something someone sent me. An Italian fragrance firm is releasing a line of unisex eau de perfumes called Blood Concept based on the four different blood groups, A, B, AB, and O. It debuted at Esxence 2011, a perfumery trade show, in Milan and will go on sale some time in September. All versions of the blood-scented fragrance has a hint of metallic in them that is inspired by the real thing, but does not include any actual blood or flowery components. I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine how these could smell good. They have apparently used natural ingredients like cedar, spices and leather which sound good until you add the metallic component which is what is supposed to give it a hint of blood smell. I’m very curious to smell it, but I doubt I’d buy it. Blood is really not a turn on for me. If you are looking to attract that gorgeous vampire next door this should do the job. What happens after that is not my fault.

I usually stay away from blogging about things on Etsy. Not because I don’t like it, but because I think I like it too much. Well, that and the fact that a lot of the things sold are one of a kind items. This time I had to make an exception, though. I came across this little Frog Zombie and just fell in love. You know I have such a weakness for zombies. He’s made by Plushroom Soup. Check out some of the designers other zombified animals. I’m especially partial to the Unicorn Zombie since I hate unicorns. What makes them so cute is that they are made to order and the designer will customize it for you. You decide how bloody and gory you want them to be. The arms and legs are held on with magnets, so they are removable. The frog doesn’t come cheap, though. He sells for $48, but totally worth it to get your handmade 10″ Frog Zombie made to your liking. Now if only I could find a real one…
