Skull Towels

Filexd under: Accessories,Bar,Bed & Bath,Crafts,Decor,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:18 pm

I’m always looking for things to have in my house that don’t automatically scream Halloween, but is still scary and creepy. I think I can check off Skull Kitchen Towels now. These black towels are embroidered with a dark purple skull damask design and made by Fabulously Fierce on Etsy. I absolutely love this towel, but I would love it even more if the embroidery was a dark royal blue. I wonder if she’ll do custom? Yup! She says it right there in the description. They are a little pricey at $12 for one towel, but you have to keep in mind that they are made by one person trying to make a living, not a big corporation. Oh and they’re gorgeous too.

Zombie Decanter

Filexd under: Accessories,Bar,beverage,Collectibles,Decor,Halloween Decor,kitchen,Recipes — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:12 pm

By now you all have probably seen the Crystal Head Vodka bottle that I blogged about here. Well, I just came across a new version, the Zombie Glass Decanter. This one is without the vodka or any other liquid, so you can fill it with anything from Kool-aid to Absinthe. Both, I might add, can be found in a lovely shade of green. Think Geek is selling them for $19.99, so clearly it’s a must buy at a great price. Can’t wait to pull it out for the Halloween party this year.

Scary Witches’ Brew

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Crafts,Decor,Food & Candy,Halloween Decor,Recipes — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:02 pm

For many years we have had a Halloween party. Each year it gets bigger and more elaborate as I find new things or ways of doing things. Our guests love it and we have a blast doing it. It just takes a lot of prep time. Every year I make the same punch which I originally talked about Here. Everyone loves it and it’s always a huge hit. I usually make one with alcohol and one without. As usual I will be making it this year, but with a new added ingredient that I’m really excited to try. Here is the original recipe:

1             96 oz. Orange Juice
4             48 oz. cans Pineapple Juice
4             2 liter bottles of Sprite or 7Up
1             1.75 liter bottle of vodka

Obviously this makes a lot, but you can cut it down for the amount you need keeping the ratios the same. For the non-alcholic just leave out the vodka and it still tastes great! Someone told me last year that it you add a couple of scoops of lime sherbert it really gets an eerie gross scum to it that looks disgusting, but still tastes great. I sorta think substituting the Sprite/7Up with Ginger ale might make it more gross since it’s not clear, but kinda brownish. So, I might try that. Last year I bought a mesh tea ball and put the small pieces of dry ice inside instead of in the main cauldron. Once I closed it up I just sank it right into the actual punch. Safe to drink, but the bubbling comes right from the punch! It worked really well, but I searched all year for something bigger to use. Once it disolves you have to fill it up again, so I wanted something that I could put more in to last longer. Turns out you can get mesh tea balls in a larger size. They are also known as spice balls apparently (So not in the mood for stupid jokes, so just shut up!). Don’t forget the ice hands/fingers because they are still fun!

Skeleton Hand Drink Dispenser

Filexd under: Accessories,Bar,beverage,Decor,Food & Candy,Halloween Decor,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:46 pm

As always I’m on the lookout for cool and interesting items for our annual Halloween party. I especially like things that are good quality so I can use them again and again. A lot of Halloween party items are just not meant to hold up after one night. It’s for this reason that I search out the higher end stores instead of Target, Party City etc. Every year I make the pilgrimage to Pottery Barn. I’m not a fan of their stuff in general, but they usually have a good Halloween collection every year. I stopped in last weekend to see what they had and once again found something I couldn’t resist. That is until I read the fine print. I absolutely coveted this Skeleton Hand Drink Dispenser as soon as I saw it. I looked at the price and saw it was $79. A little expensive, but it seemed to be well made and would hold up year to year, so I went for it. It was so cool with the metal skeleton hands holding the glass dispenser. As I was picking it up to take to the counter I noticed that there was another box to the set. I went to grab it and noticed it was priced at $69. WTF? I asked the oh-so entitled bitch at the counter and was condescendingly told that the glass jar and the stand were sold separately of course. Really?!? When you display them together and only put one price tag on them what do you expect customers to think? What in the world would I want just the stand for? It’s cool looking, but what the hell would I use it for? Especially for $69. I just walked out. The sales girl was rude and and idiot. Couple that with the fact that the powers that be at Pottery Barn would price something that way, I just don’t need to shop there ever again. They won’t miss my business that much, but I really wanted that thing. I still probably would have bought it if it had been priced correctly as a set to begin with. I’m tempted to go back to that bitch and buy that skeleton stand anyway. I can think of one place I could put it.

Skull Mug: The Search Continues…

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Collectibles,Food & Candy,kitchen,News/Articles — Tags: , , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 12:14 am

Okay, I admit it, I’m stupid. Surprised? Thought Scary Jane was perfect in every way? Me too! Actually I used much more colorful language when I was yelling at myself earlier today. Want to know what caused me to turn on myself? Well, here ya go. A few days ago I went into a Ross near my house. I pick up the weirdest stuff in there sometimes, so it’s worth a peek now and then. Unfortunately this time I was not finding much that caught my attention until I wandered into the mug isle. There on the shelf was a beautiful Skull Mug. In fact there were four of them. As you may remember I broke my favorite skull mug a long time ago and I have been searching ever since for a replacement. There are hundreds available out there, do a Google search, but none of them were as cool. These were not like my old one, but I just knew that it was the one for me. I looked at the price and they were ridiculously cheap at $3.99 each. Since I didn’t have a basket I left them there and continued looking through the store with every intention of coming back to get them. It was about 2pm and I was getting really hungry since I hadn’t had lunch, so I started going through the store a little faster. I didn’t find anything else I wanted and started to go back to the mugs when I saw the huge checkout line. I knew my stomach couldn’t wait much longer to be fed, so I decided (for some dumb ass reason) that I wasn’t so sure about the mugs anyway and I should just sleep on it. That night I realized that I should have just bought them. They were awesome and they were cheap. The next day I was just too busy to get over there. Today I was really excited about them and determined to go back. I got to Ross after lunch this time and went straight to the mug isle. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, but they were all gone! I asked the lady that was stocking the shelves if there were more, but of course there weren’t. She then suggested I try other Ross stores. I got out to my car and tried calling all of the stores anywhere near me and no one had them. I spent the next 15 minutes yelling at myself in the car. Calling myself every horrible name I could think of and even made up a few new ones. I have searched endlessly online to no avail. I have decided that I am not talking to myself for a few days, so I can cool off. I mean how stupid can one person be? Learn from me. Never ever pass something up just because you don’t want to stand in line. You’ll regret it and never forgive yourself. This ends today’s lesson.

Alien Cookie Jar

Filexd under: Accessories,Bar,Collectibles,Food & Candy,kitchen,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 2:46 pm

I have a confession to make. Don’t laugh at me, but I did not see the movie Alien until a few years ago. Scary Hubby kept bugging me to see it, but for some reason it didn’t interest me. I’m not a big Sci-Fi fan and I thought this was just another run of the mill spaceship in peril movie. Finally we were visiting Scary Hubby’s parents in Philadelphia and he and his Dad decided it was time I sat and watched this movie with them. Since I was trying to be a good daughter-in-law I had to give in. An hour later I was convinced this was one of the scariest Sc-Fi movie I had ever seen and added it to my list of great scary movies. I have since seen the sequels which were all good, but nothing compared to the first. I wish I had given in sooner and seen Alien when I was younger, but it still scared the crap out of me. So, I was on vacation in Hawaii last month. I know what you’re thinking and no I am not a sun or heat worshiper. Wearing all black and going to Hawaii don’t really mix, but Scary Hubby and Scary Daughter wanted to go, so I gave in. Turns out I had a great time which I will save for a later post. Anyway, I was poking around in a store and found this Alien Cookie Jar. So cool. I had never seen one like this before. I secretly bought it for Scary Hubby since it’s one of his all time favorite movies and gave it to him when we got back. Needless to say, he was thrilled and it now sits proudly on our kitchen counter daring all to take a cookie. I especially like it because the Alien’s hand looks like a skeleton. Scary Daughter has not seen the movie, but insists that we have to make Alien baby shaped cookies to put inside. So, now I am off on another quest to find an Alien cookie cutter. How do I get myself into these things? Any ideas where I could find one?

Cold Blooded Ice Cubes

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Food & Candy,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:11 am

I’ve always got my eye out for something scary or funny and if it’s scary and funny I have to have it. I am the dream impulse buyer. If only most of the stores knew what sorts of items to put in the checkout line that would attract me. Of course that brings up another subject for me. Why, oh why can’t there be a store that just caters to my interests? You know, The Scary Jane Store. I would be there all the time. I’d spend all of my money there. I would constantly promote them on here. It would be a goldmine! Come on all of you entrepreneurs. Start this baby up. I would do it, but I already have my own business. There just isn’t enough hours in the day. So, it’s up to you to make my dream a reality. Anyway, back to what I was writing about. I was in a little gift store last weekend and came across these Cold Blooded Ice Cube Trays in the checkout line. Of course I grabbed them without even looking at the price. After I paid for my purchases and nervously looked at the receipt I found that it was a little more than I would want to pay, but still worth it. Anything to make my Bloody Mary even more bloody. This little coffin shaped tray makes 5 sets of vampire teeth. I tried it out immediately and they came out really good. The only problem being that you only get 5 at a time. So, if you are making them for a party you’d better get started early. I looked around online and found that you could buy them for only $8 on Amazon. I think I might order more from them. If you are still busy planning your idea for The Scary Jane Store I would suggest getting these in the store first.

Skeleton Apron

Filexd under: Apparel,Bar,Fashion,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 10:30 pm

You know those stupid t-shirts they sell in beach towns? You know, the ones where it shows the sexy girl/guy in a bathing suit and their bodies are perfect? I hate those! Especially since the people I see wearing them are always old fat people. Apparently when you hit the AARP years it’s standard attire while visiting a resort. I guess I probably thought it was funny the first time I saw it. This Skeleton Apron reminded me of those t-shirts, but so much better. These aprons are the creepy, cooler version. I would never be attracted to someone wearing one of those t-shirts, but if you wore this apron I might just jump your bones.

Zombie Brain

Filexd under: Bar,Food & Candy,Misc.,Recipes,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , , , — jane @ 1:18 am

Went out for some dinner tonight at a chinese restaurant that I haven’t been to in ages. Now they have a whole sushi bar, which I find pretty amusing in a chinese place. Anyway, I ordered my usual Orange Chicken and an interesting appetizer called Zombie Brain. I kid you not. It was basically half an avocado mixed with tuna. It was absolutely delicious, but I don’t get the reference. It didn’t look at all like any zombie brains I’ve ever fed on and it certainly didn’t taste that way. I forgot to take a picture of the actual plate, but here’s the picture from the menu. So, whenever I get a hankering for a Zombie Brain I’m still going to have to find one the old fashioned way, but this one will do in a pinch.

Pure Evil

Filexd under: Bar,beverage,Food & Candy,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , — jane @ 8:18 pm

Apparently I’ve been hiding under a rock for quite some time because I completey missed this. I do like it under there, though. So dark and quiet. I might just head back there because it’s scary out here and not the good kind. Anyway, I was at the liquor store buying a gift for someone and I found this Pure Evil wine. I’ve never seen it before! Their slogan is “Perfectly Wrong”. Gotta love that. Should be my slogan. I did some research and found out that it came out in 2005. The winery that produces it has actually gone bankrupt, but it’s still available all over the place, so I’m not sure what’s up with that. I bought the chardonnay and it really tastes good. It gets great reviews online and it sells quite cheaply. I only paid $8.99. So go get a bottle and see what Pure Evil tastes like. I sound like a commercial. Yikes! Just try it already.
