Baby Head Candle Holder

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Bed & Bath,Decor,Lighting — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 7:43 pm

Baby Head Candle HolderI saw these a long time ago and was so disturbed by them that I put them in my blog book to be posted later. Yesterday I received an email from a friend and something she said reminded me of these little guys and made me decide it was time. Don’t ask. Anyway, these little hand painted porcelain guys are actually called Little Joseph Candle Holders and were designed by czech designer Maxim Velcovsky for the Qubus Design Studio. They don’t come cheap at $100 each, but they do have a very high creepy factor. What I’d like to know is why designers seem so obsessed with baby body parts like these Baby Soap Hands that I also covered a while back. I just don’t know how I feel about hot wax dripping all over these baby heads. I find this to be just too weird.

Shining Cuckoo Clock

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Decor,Misc.,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 5:44 pm

Shining Cuckoo ClockFound the coolest Cuckoo Clock ever! If you loved Stanley Kubrick”s The Shining, you will love this Shining Cuckoo Clock. If you are actually more of a fan of the later TV version, then you won’t like this and should probably hang your head in shame and go away. Every hour Jack breaks through the door and says, “Here’s Johnny” followed by Wendy’s scream. Who wouldn’t want to wake up to that sound every hour during the night? I think I’d get tired of that after a while, but as an alarm clock it would be totally cool. This clock was designed by Chris Dimino. Unfortunately there was just one made, so not much chance of getting my hands on one.

Toddlerpedes

Filexd under: Art,Toys/Games — Tags: , , , , , — jane @ 8:28 pm

ToddlerpedeA while back I posted a picture of a strange doll sculpture. As I was poking around on the internet I finally came across where it originated from and a little bit about it. These doll sculptures are created by visual artist Jon Beinart. Toddlerpedes evolved over the years to imitate insects and mythological creatures. “I like the idea that the dolls i use in my sculptures have played important roles in so many childhoods. Personalities were attributed to each doll, which have come together to form a mega-personality… A sculpture that screams ‘Look at me!’

Now you can help him build a gargantuan Toddlerpede sculpture. “Jon is desperately searching for recycled dolls. He needs thousands of plastic doll parts to finish his latest art project, which he aims to complete by the end of 2010. Jon intends to tour an army of gargantuan Toddlerpede sculptures in public galleries throughout Australia. Your pre-loved dolls would help greatly in making an artist’s dreams come true. To donate your unwanted dollies, or doll parts, for this ambitious art installation please contact Jon.” If you are a completely non artistic type of person here is your chance to be part of a piece of art

Another Spider Tattoo

Filexd under: Art,Misc.,Nature,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 2:46 pm

Spider TattooYuck! Too scary for me. Don’t know if this is real, but here it is anyway. Can you imagine standing behind her in line? It looks so real, that I’m sure someone falls for it and tells her she has a spider on her neck. I must admit though that it is very well done.

*Thanks Lisa for the photo and thanks for the creepy crawlies that I now have!

Badass Chair

Filexd under: Art,Decor,Furniture,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 6:09 pm

I came across this very badass chair called The Outlaw the other day. It was designed by Ted Nemeth. The chair “…is a classic Victorian chair that’s hand carved from solid mahogany the painted satin black and embossed with jewels, tooled leather and working speakers in the footstool.” Not sure where to start. There are just so many things to say about this chair. As a former interior designer I still get very excited about furniture. I also get very irritated when someone says they painted solid mahogany. That’s neither here nor there though. Just an aside really. This chair has the words F*** O** tooled in on the seat with a black skull sitting at the top of the back. It certainly is a badass chair and I think only badass people should own it. It’s very cool, but might just be a little too scary for my house. Or should I say weird. The thing that bugs me the most is the speakers in the footstool. Really? Is that necessary? How do they attach to your stereo? Will you have cords running from it or is it wireless? Why on the footstool anyway? Your feet will be pumping with the music. Wouldn’t that affect the sound? I don’t know. Strange choice if you ask me, which no one did or I would have given them an earful!Outlaw ChairOutlaw Chair 2

Bombarock

Filexd under: Accessories,Apparel,Art,Bed & Bath,Decor,Furniture,kitchen — Tags: , , , , , , , , , — jane @ 6:51 pm

Skull ChairBat ApronI have found a new artist/designer that I am absolutely in love with. Her name is Georgina Brett Chinnery and the name of her company is Bombarock. Of course, as usual, the company is based in the UK where I am convinced all of the people with good taste or at least scary taste live. Ms. Chinnery started the company in 2006 as an upholstery and design business. Although now she mainly works in leather pieces she has some amazing fabric pieces that are just to die for. Bombarock produces anything from chairs to ironing board covers to aprons. Hard to narrow down what is my favorite, but the Bat Apron and the Skull Chair rank pretty high up there. I just love a designer that has some real style and originality.

3-D Spider

Filexd under: Art,Fashion,Nature,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , — jane @ 7:35 pm

Spider tattooFor your creepy enjoyment (or not) I present you with this yucky spider tattoo. It looks a little fake to me. It’s just a little too perfect. I can’t seem to find the origin of this picture, so I just have to assume that it’s real. Either way… ICK!!

Widdershin

Filexd under: Art,Books,Decor — Tags: , , , , , , — jane @ 9:17 pm

So excited! I just had to share. Just received the artwork that we purchased a while back by Karl Christian Krumpholz. I did a post about him here. I hung it up immediately. It doesn’t really match the colors I have in my house, but when you fall in love with something you just deal with it and find a spot. Widdershin was originally the cover for one of the artist’s comic books called Byron: Die Byron Die. I just love the tiki style that it has. Isn’t it just so cool?Widdershin coverWiddershin

Creepy Guy in Wall

Filexd under: Art,Nature,Outdoors,Travel,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 1:18 pm

Guy in Wall StatueAfter I received so many emails on the last picture I posted I thought I’d try to post this one. I’ve had this picture for a while, but have no idea where it came from. I think it’s somewhere in Great Britain, but I could be wrong. I find this guy to be very creepy. Judging by the surroundings of the statue it looks like it’s in the middle of nowhere. I would jump thirty feet in the air if I was walking down a quiet lane and came upon this guy. I’d love to meet him. Anyone out there able to help me? I’ll post when I find out something.
