Once again my favorite store, Pylones, comes through for me. I love the wild and crazy stuff they carry. Everything is so cool and useful. They recently unveiled a bunch of stuff that is coming out soon including this Skull Stapler. I have looked and looked for a neat skull stapler over the years and have never found one that didn’t look homemade. This one is awesome and the brain lid even comes off so you can store things inside. If you’re not a fan of the funky colors it also comes in a more plain, silver version. Either way it’s ridiculously creepy and fun. Just think of all the fun you can have playing with this over the wall of your cubicle. Use him as a puppet and say, “I’m going to eat your brains!” It’s sure to make you a hit in the office. It doesn’t go on sale until March and is going to cost a whopping $49, but who cares? When something is cool, original and doubles as a toy to torture your office mates with it’s worthing slapping down a little extra cash, right? At least that’s the logic I’ll use when Scary Hubby sees the bill.
I know this Flaming Silver Skull is supposed to be scary and it is I guess. It’s very cool and all that, but it reminds me of something a lot less scary. Like the Heat Miser (without the skin) from A Year Without a Santa Claus. He might be scary to your average 3 year old, but not me. I absolutely love the Heat Miser and his brother Snow Miser. Great song. It also reminds me of Syndrome from The Incredibles. Let’s face it though, his look was totally ripped off from the Heat Miser. Anyway, this little skull is about 6″ tall and is made of cold cast resin with a silver finish. He looks to me to be quite pointy, so he might be a good weapon to have around if someone pisses you off.

I got the link to this Etsy website called Blue Bayer Designs from a reader. All I can say is wow. This is amazing stuff that this guy in New York is creating. His name is actually Blue Bayer and he is a self taught artist. He creates great SteamPunk and Victorian jewelry using anything from watch parts, to bat skulls, to dolls eyes and just found items. I am particularly partial to his eyeball jewelry like the Eyeball Locket and the Blue Eye of Protection Poison Ring. Very unique. He makes all of his items to order, so you can make such requests as what color eye or type of metal he uses. His prices are very reasonable considering how much work and skill goes into making each one. I have a birthday coming up in March if anyone (are you reading Scary Hubby?) is trying to figure out what to get me.
*Thanks Faye in Aurora, CO

Oh, how I appreciate a macabre sense of humor. So many people out there are so uptight. In the world we live in today you really have to stop once in awhile and smell the dead roses or just get a good laugh. I’m sure I will be bombarded again with emails after people read this post, so let me just say now I am not a serial killer or psychotic. I enjoy life as much as I can and have a great sense of humor considering the things that are going on around us. All that being said, I found this great Slit Throat Choker on Etsy! The artist’s name is Tiana Rutledge and she creates this choker and many other things including Slit Wrist bracelets and Blood Drop earrings. She also makes this fantastic Black Rose ring. I just love her stuff. They are all hand sculpted from flexible polymer clay and very reasonably priced. You can get the entire Bloody Mess set for just $28. Great for Halloween obviously, but I plan on wearing mine year round. I can’t wait until I can wear it to pick up my daughter from school. Those uptight private school moms won’t know what hit them. Shocking them always makes my day.

So, there is a woman in France that designs lamp shades and calls them Spooky Shades. Elisa refers to herself as a rock n’ roll/metal fan who was frustrated with the lack of interesting and funky housewares available in stores. She particularly didn’t like all of the plain lamp shades out there, so decided to make her own edgy ones. What Elisa has come up with is just fantastic. I’m not neccessarily a metal fan, but there are a lot of common design elements between that and my preferred scary lifestyle. There are ones based on horror movies, skulls and even one with anatomy sketches over a Jack the Ripper letter which I might add is my personal favorite. Each one appears to be different and one of kind and she updates often with new styles. If you don’t see one you like now, keep checking back because her stock changes often.
Here is something I can get really excited about. This is a Skull Key that comes on a keychain. The neat thing about this is that you can take it to any key cutter guy and it can be cut to fit. I don’t know what a key cutter guy is called. Is he just a locksmith? Well, anyway you can get it to fit your house or whatever. I’ve only ever seen skull covers that go over the key, but this one has the skull built right in. Makes me think of those big skeleton keys from the old days. I used to buy them at antique stores and wear a bunch of them around my neck on a black ribbon. I always thought that was pretty cool. It’s also reminding me of that movie with Kate Hudson called Skeleton Key. The skeleton key in that story unlocks a secret attic room that…well, maybe I shouldn’t say in case you haven’t seen it. It was a pretty good movie that had some good scares without being gory. Of course, now that I’m writing about it I want to see it again. If I could just stay on topic this wouldn’t happen all of the time!

I know I mostly cover scary things on this blog, but once in a while I come across something gross that’s worth talking about. Actually this is just beyond creepy and gives me the heebie jeebies. Artist Aganetha Dyck works with honeybees to create sculptural objects that end up coated and filled with precisely formed honeycomb structures. This just gives me the complete creeps. It reminds me of those old horror movies from the ’70s that were about killer bees taking over the world. Killer Bees, The Bees, The Swarm etc. I just remember in one of those movies somebody being found dead covered in honeycomb. That scared the crap out of me as a child and gave me nightmares for weeks. I really see no reason anyone would ever want to put this art on display, but maybe that’s just me. I swear I was just looking at the pictures again and my gag reflex kicked in. ICK!

I found this fantastic skull over at Z Gallerie. They always surprise me with their cool little scary items that they come up with now and then. This Metallic Skull is another one of those nice surprises. It’s not that big at 7″ x 4.5″ x 5.25″, but with the high shininess factor you probably wouldn’t want it any bigger. It will pack quite a punch on it’s own. You could even hang it from the ceiling and use it as a disco ball. I absolutely love this little skull! It reminds me of something in a movie, but I’m drawing a blank at the moment. I’m sure I’ll wake up at some point in the middle of the night and remember it. I’ll post it when I think of it, but until then you will just have to keep refreshing my page and breathlessly await my update. Not going to do that? WTF? What kind of stalker are you anyway?
Now I don’t really like to sew, but this little Witch Boot Pincushion just might help me enjoy it more. I need something to help me enjoy it since I’m always having to fix some piece of clothing or another. I constantly put mending off until someone in my family finally starts yelling loud enough. Maybe they could fix their own clothes. Yeah! That might be asking a little too much from this lazy crowd I call a family. It doesn’t say what it’s made of, but it looks like the boot part is some kind of metal and it’s a good size at 11″ tall. Maybe if it’s heavy enough I can use it as a weapon against my family. Of course I would just use it to threaten, but they don’t know that. If it’s that time of the month anything could happen! As they know from past experience Scary Jane can go ape sh*t at the drop of a pin. However bad, pun was intended.
One of the scariest movies ever made was The Birds. At least it is for me. That movie just makes me shiver. Whenever I see it I spend weeks getting creeped out every time I see a bird and God forbid I should see more than one. That will send me running into the nearest building. Hitchcock was a brilliant director who could make something so sweet and innocent into the most terrifying thing ever. This Bird Pillow reminded me of The Birds the second I saw it. I know I could never have this in my house. Way too scary! I’d never go near a bird and I actually love birds. This pillow is even worse than just a pillow with a bird on it. The birds on this pillow look like they are swarming and coming in for the kill. Way too creepy for me. I draw the line at the bird pillow.
