King King Model

Filexd under: Art,Misc.,News/Articles,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , — jane @ 7:29 pm

King Kong modelKing Kong movie stillSo here’s a bit of interesting news. Well, at least in my book anyway. The original King Kong model from the 1933 movie sold at a London auction for about $200,000. It was sold as part of Christie’s auction of pop culture memorabilia. The metal alloy and steel skeleton is less than 2 feet tall and originally was covered in cotton, rubber, latex and rabbit’s fur. However, the covering rotted and fell off over the years.  It was designed by master animator Willis O’Brien and built by the RKO Studio’s Miniature Department. In the movie this model was used in the climax to make King Kong climb to the top of the Empire State Building. Interestingly enough the model was thought to have been destroyed years ago, but was recently discovered in a collector’s shoebox. The model was originally saved by Eugene Hilchey when RKO’s props department was scrapped in 1967.

Skull Wallpaper

Filexd under: Accessories,Decor,Misc. — Tags: , , , — jane @ 7:14 pm

Skull WallpaperOMG! Sometimes people email me links to various things they think I might find interesting. Sometimes they are pretty cool and sometimes they are duds. This, my friends, is the best item yet! My new best friend sent me a link to this Skull Wallpaper. I am in love. Unfortunately my love doesn’t come cheap at $125 for a 32.8′ roll. This wallpaper was designed by Barbara Hulanicki who obviously has a fun side to her. This is someone I’d like to get to know. I think it’s great that from far away you really can’t tell what the design is. It’s not until you get up close that you realize it’s just a bunch of skulls. This would look so great in my new house. I’m not a big fan of wallpaper in general and don’t put it in my house, but for this great stuff I might just have to break my rule.

* Thanks SusieQ for the link. You are my new best friend! ;)

Skeleton Bike

Here’s some cool pictures that someone sent me. Unfortunately, no idea on where it comes from or who created it. It’s just part of photographer Stephen H. Moore’s portfolio online. I must say it is pretty cool to look at, but I can’t imagine it’s very comfortable.

*Thanks Jenny for the link.

Skull Swizzle Sticks

Filexd under: Bar,kitchen — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 12:21 pm

Skull Swizzle SticksBeing a lover of all things alcohol I am always on the lookout for scary bar accessories to add to my collection. Here are some fantastic skull swizzle sticks that will fit right in. They were apparently released only for the Halloween season, but you can still buy them. This always pisses me off! Don’t they realize how many people out there love this kind of stuff? And not just at Halloween? Skulls are so popular now. You can buy practically anything with a skull on it at Kmart or Target nowadays. Not that I’m particularly thrilled about that, but that’s another story. It just always makes me mad when I find some cool thing on the internet and I can’t buy it because it’s not Halloween anymore. I spend so much money during Halloween on every day stuff for my house. When will they learn? Anyway, if you like these you might want to snap them up because it’s only while their supply lasts.

Hungry Alien

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,kitchen,Outdoors — Tags: , , , — jane @ 4:46 pm

Hungry Alien SculptureI found this little Hungry Alien online a while back and I had a great idea for him. That just cracked me up and made me want him even more. He is very similar to the Alien Gnome Bandits I covered a few months ago. Probably by the same artist, though it doesn’t say that. This guy is made from recycled nuts, bolts and cutlery. He would look great out in the garden or overlooking your barbecue, but I have a better plan. Don’t you get tired of those dumb little pilgrims your grandmother puts on the table every year at Thanksgiving? Or what about the 40 year old little turkey that Uncle Joe made out of Styrofoam and feathers when he was 4 years old? Why not replace all of that crap and put him right in the middle of your Thanksgiving dinner table? That would certainly wake everyone up and put some fun on your table. Although, you might have to sneak it onto the table when Grandma isn’t looking or she may put a kibosh on your devious plans.

Vampire Bat Weathervane

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Outdoors — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 1:20 pm

Bats WeathervaneI’ve been looking for a cool weathervane since our new house has a spot for one. Most of them are pretty cheesy with roosters, cows or pigs on them which I do not want. I found this deliciously creepy Vampire Bat Weathervane that will be perfect! Bats flying around a moon! How great is that? Wouldn’t it be cool if it cast a shadow on the sidewalk? Probably too high for that. I first saw that it was a garden stake, but then I found that there is a roof mount one as well. It’s well priced at $69.95 and it’s made out of recycled aluminum, so you’re helping the planet too. Win, win! Now I just have to figure out how Scary Hubby is going to get it up there, because it is really high up. Maybe you can hire someone to do that?

Zombie Crossing

Filexd under: Apparel,TV/Movies — Tags: , , , , — jane @ 1:51 pm

Zombie Crossing T-ShirtI know another Zombie post. I’m obsessed and I have a problem. Is there a group meeting for that? Zombie Lovers Anonymous? Obviously I need help with my habit. Blame it on Zombieland. They did this to me! Anyway, I saw this t-shirt, busted a gut and ordered one all in one breath. This particular shirt warns drivers of potential Zombie Crossing. According to Zombieland this might just be a necessity in the future. If you saw the movie ***SPOILER*** you know that the zombie state was originally caused by Mad Cow disease. With all of the H1N1, Bird Flu and other things floating around it is only a matter of time until there are zombies everywhere and we’ll need this road sign. Kudos to Durtbagz.com for thinking ahead.

Cobweb Under Glass

Filexd under: Accessories,Art,Misc.,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , — jane @ 1:34 pm

Authentic CobwebI found one of the most unusual items today that I just couldn’t wait to share with you. It’s an Authentic Cobweb put under glass. Apparently someone finds and carefully removes them. Each one is unique and is documented as to the type of spider that created it and when and where it was found. It’s then put on black felt and a slightly domed glass is put over it to be preserved forever. Of course as usual it is only sold during the Halloween season, but they still have some left and they have also lowered the price to $79.99. Pretty steep, I know, but really incredible when you think about it. I mean you know when you buy it that it’s one of a kind. I wonder what you do with it though. Is there a way to hang it up or do you just put it on a table? It’s not that big at 7″, so I guess you could find a spot for it. I just feel kind of bad for the spider who went to all of that trouble to build his perfect home and then have it taken away.

Coffin Sunglasses

Filexd under: Accessories,Apparel,Jewelry — Tags: , , , — jane @ 12:36 pm

Coffin EyeglassesFound these creepy Coffin Shaped Eyeglasses. They are beyond creepy cool, but I do wonder how well you can see out of them with the cross design right in front of your eye. I love the tagline too: What would Dracula wear on the Riviera? They’d be great for a Halloween costume, but I’m not sure about the practicality. They are apparently sunglasses so that helps. Maybe you can’t see the cross when you are wearing them. If anybody has these please let me know. I really like them, but feel like I wouldn’t be able to see and be bumbling around in them. A++ for style though.

Severed Fingers

Filexd under: Accessories,Halloween Decor,kitchen,Misc.,Weird Stuff — Tags: , , , — jane @ 5:22 pm

Severed FingersAs usual I am always looking out for ways to freak out neighbors. Of course it’s always fun to do it at Halloween, but that’s expected. I like to do it at different times and in unexpected ways. I found these severed fingers and immediately started thinking about Halloween. Moments later my brain started going beyond Halloween and came up with some great ideas. I love to decorate for Christmas. I know, sounds strange right? Actually not strange if you think of all of the fun things you can scatter around mixed in with your plastic Santas and elves. People get very freaked out when you mess with Christmas. I love it as much as the next person, but that doesn’t mean I have no sense of humor. Try sticking these severed fingers on your Christmas tree, so it looks like someone is clawing their way out. How about putting them in the hay in your nativity scene on the front lawn. Better yet! Stick them in the turkey before you bring it to the table. Maybe not…might be a little too freaky for some of the older folks. Point is…have some fun. You’d be amazed at what you could come up with to do with these fingers.
